Thanks: Gave 57, Got 32 | Please advise me as I may be buying new player tomorow
I have a Philips 9830 32" tv and currently i have a Sony 900NV player which is not progressive. I was thinking of buying a HDMI dvd player. I know that it wont be a true HD player and that the icture will just be upscaled but wont it be better picture than I am currently getting at the moment?
I get 480i from my dvd player while my 360 can display 520p I think or 480p I can't remember but I want a multi region player anyway.
Would you recomend I keep the player I have or should I buy a new one with HDMI output? My budget is £250 so was thinking Denon 1920 multi region or would you advise me to get something else. I am thinking of buying one tomorow.

Not sure if now is a good time to buy however as it seems that the list of available pseudo hd players are increasing alsmost daily. Also many first generation upscaling players will probably be replaced soon with newer and hopefully more improved versions that don't have the 'bugs' as found in so many of them.
I think you're right however in saying that the picture will be better - significantly better I might add if you choose to upgrade now to the Denon. The 1920 would be my first choice at that sort of budget although I'd also be tempted to try out this Oppo machine that everyone here keeps raving on about.

I went into AV Land sotre as it is local to me. Around xmas they were selling the 1920 with HDMi cable for £250 but now they want £250 just for the machine and another £50 for the cable.
I will buy it on line as it is cheaper, still not sure if the picture will be better. My tv says my picture is 480i from my current player and 520p on my 360.

Your Sony 900V will, I'm sure, have much better sound than the 1920, since I have a 900V & a 3910 & the 900 is MUCH better on CD & SACD.
There is a chance theat the 1920 won't be better pq wise. My pj has a good deinterlacer on it, so giving it interlaced works very well. On the whole I prefer my 3910 pq wise to the 900, but the 900 comes very close.
Your 900 should only show 480i if it's a NTSC disc, should show 576i on R2 PAL.

I think I wll just buy one of these http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ducts_id=4088& and connect my dvd player and 360 to that via cmponent and wait for a proper HD player.
Would I lose any picture quality going through that?

I have that component switcher and it works perfectly for me. I didnt notice any loss of quality, but then again i am not exactly a videophile but it does what it says on the tin |
