Which system is best plus or minus

Hi There, i recently purchased a Matsui dvd recorder, it records on the plus system, but when a neigbour did me a recording on his dvd minus recorder it played back very poorly constantly jerking and freezing. So which version is best for recording and sharing on other machines.
