Unhappy toshiba sd-p410

I had the Toshiba sd-p410 model for 4 years now. It has always work well with CD, VCD and DVD for all regions and without any restriction even though this player was solely made for the Japanese market. I think it was reprogramed somehow by the vendor. Recently my kid was playing around with the setting buttons and the DVD player seems to have returned to its original setting. Now it only plays DVD and CD but not VCD. Everytime a VCD is inserted and played, the word "please check dics" will appear.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem on this model and what suggestions do you have in rectifying this problem?

Thank you in advance for your advice.
