No Sound

My father-in-law has a Toshiba SD-240E DVD player. Unfortunately the sound has disappeared. It is connected to a Toshiba TV via a SCART lead and the picture is still good but there is no sound (TV sound is still OK when watching TV). I have tried changing the SCART cable and using an analog sound cable instead of the SCART. Any ideas or is DVD player broken?

I would try it with another TV and see what happens.
