Home cinema help please!!!!

Hello, I am new to all this and need help!! I have just bought a JVC THS11. I also have a JVC 17" LCD TV, JVC Digibox and a Sony VCR. All have 2 Scarts apart from the DVD which has 1. I want to connect it all so that I can have the sound from the DVD. I spent hours last night trying but to no avail!!! I have a JVC scart junction box but when I use it I get sound from different channels when something else is on the screen??? Can anybody explain simply how to connect this lot so it works. Sorry for being a bit thick but its beat me. Do I need a switchable junction box? I was told in Currys that the one I have is automatic. Thanks in anticipation. Bob.
