Cambridge Audio DVD79 - how good is it at playing music CDs?

Hi,

Anybody out there with a DVD79 unit? - If so, would you be kind enough and answer a few questions:

How good is the playback quality of music CDs?

Can it match a dedicated CDP such as Azur 540C or NAD C521 BEE in that regard?

Also, does the DVD79 suffer from lip-sync issue via S-Video and Analogue outputs?

*Since both DVD77 and DVD79 feature the same DACs, I suppose comments of those with DVD77 are welcome as well...

TIA!

I had the DVD79 for a short while, didn't get far as testing CD capability which I suspect would be competent but not as good as a decent CD player.

What put me off was the poor quality of DVD pic via component. Never tried the DVI, which I believe is better - but have read lots about the lip sync probs with DVI.

Also note - no prog scan with component, only with the DVI..PJ

Thanks,

Is it correct to assume that since 540D and both DVD79/DVD77 feature the same Crystal CS4360 DAC, their performance in CD playback is comparable?

In fact i read a post from a Guru at the CA forum and he assured the DVD79 is definitely a loss in terms of Audio Quality. Guess it's the price to pay for that DVI out (a price far too high IMO...). And careful because the DVI out is NOT HDCP compliant! (as confirmed by the Guru also).

I own a 540D myself and i must say the audio quality is simply amazing!
