Post Toshiba SD900E

Does ANYONE out there have this player? What are your thoughts on the picture, sound and player facilities? What is the layer change and access speed like? and chapter search and disc navigation? Any tweeks and special functions that improve performance? And lastly, where is the best place to get one - multi-region with FULL RCE compatibility?

If you own or have seen this player in action - your assistence would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin.

I have the SD900E. Its simply a fantastic player in more or less every way.

Pictures are natural and the sound from the internal decoders is thrilling too. I bought it to replace my Pioneer DV717 and it did so admirably. Layer change is quicker than the DV717 but, noticably. Track access on most discs is speedy as well and for once the drive is silent.

CD performance is spot on too.

Built like a tank.

Need I go on!

Thanks for your reply. Where did you get it from, and is it Multi-Region RCE? Thanks again.

Well I actually have the Region 2 player on order with Sevenoaks Hifi. Its been on order for 10 weeks or so, they have kindly lent me the store model which is multi region but not RCE compatible (boo!).

I'm not that bothered about multi-region.

The Region 2 model is £1100 and multiregion is £1200 as far as I know.

Hope this helps,

Damian

I have noticed that Techtronics are the only ones to have modified Toshiba's such as the SD900e that are fully RCE compatible and need no workarounds or tricks to play them. The prices are decent even when you add the VAT and I can also recommend their service. I hope this helps

Hi,

I have a Teac Reference A500i 2 channel amp for music and some B&W 601S2 speakers. For A/V I'm using a Yamaha DSP A5 and some Gale Gold Monitors MkII with a Yamaha SW90 Sub.

All pretty modest stuff but a noticable difference in performance since the upgrade all the same.

When my funds are replenished its some new Kef Q35.2 floorstanders for me.

Hope this helps,

Damian

Where can I get a silver one of these beasts? All the stores seem to have gold "champagne" colour... The one in the review looks silver to me!

I too sit absolutely firmly in the Toshiba players camp. I own (also) a Pioneer and a Sony and the Tosh performance wise (picture/sound) really does make them run for their boxes - no question, no doubt. You need real money (Tag) to find something "better" but with the Tosh you really are in the lofty "diminishing returns" bracket.
