Help needed please

Hi all,
Can anyone help me out please. Have been looking at alot of reviews lately but am puzzled about one thing.
When they say it plays, dvd-r/dvd-rw (in video mode)?
What does that actually mean, in video mode?
If anybody can shed some light on this please, would be most appreciated.

well it just means you cant stick a data disc in and read data files.

your limited to just video as one would expect from a dvd player and not a PC
