Question Pioneer 757 vs 868

Has anyone had a chance to compare these two players CD audio quality? Do we assume that the 868 will be better - but is it £300 better in general, as i am not worried about video output as we know thats good enough (for me anyway)- i am asking as i would like to ditch my Arcam Alpha 8SE cd player, which sounds excellent, and wont be touched by either player mentioned, but maybe the 868 isn't too far off. . . ?

Any comments would be appreciated?

cheers

Dave

Given that the 757 is in very short supply as is the 868 i can only guess that no-one has had the opportunity to dem these two unless. . .

i have a 757, and i was too interested to know if anyone compared the two.

i was considering the upgrade but...

the 868 doesn't have the twin lazer pick-up so was hoping to see a review on both.

yes. I have a Rotel 1072 cd player, and it's great.

i believe it's better than the pioneer 757 but no THAT better. My dealer thought i was making a mistake when buying the Rotel. But i wanted a cd player and a dvd player.

for me a dvd player has only DVD-Video funcionality and it's the way i want it. so i wanted to know if the picture quality on the 868 is much better than the 757.

Check out the the reviews of this month's What HF S&V ( I hope I can mention that title on this forum?!) It does a group test of a few universal players.

The P 868 is considered to by excellent and future proofed, but the Denon is just ahead on picture quality. CD ability seem to be comparable b/w the two

The P 757 is highly praised too for its Pic quality (its not prog scan though?); for CD playback "more than acceptable, [but] pure audiophiles will still find it insubstantial against a high end cd player"

Otherwise, the denon 2900 as the BEST in the mid-range price. The 2200 is pretty good too, but "CD playback is only average", though good enough for most people who are "willing to sacrifice some hifi ability".

Dear All,

I purchased a 757Ai (multi-region/PAL prog scan) about 4 months ago and was given the opportunity to upgrade it to the 868 when it was released. My 757 is connected to my Panasonic 6 by component with progressive scan, and to a Pionner AX5i.

My question is whether it's worth upgrading this player with my dealer - is it any better with regard to picture quality (with component) or audio playback?

Thanks in advance,

Yen

I have both the 757 and 868. Although I added the 868 for the HDMI capability, I have checked the picture on both through component connection. The 868 is picture is a little beter that the 757. Regarding CD playback I have difficulty to see any difference between the two.
