Thanks: Gave 2, Got 1 | DVD player only has component HDMI and composite, how to connect to CRT?
Ok I have a Samsung DVD player that I originally got to use on my LCD tv that I have now sold but as I shortly afterwards started using my PC to play dvd's direct to the screen it wasnt needed.
I am missing my CRT screen and sometimes go back to it but dont want to wear down my original Xbox as its dying and my old PS2 of course gets green screen.
I bought a used component to scart cable at local market last week when on holiday and tested it on my friends DVD player since he has an old CRT TV, all that happened was the picture was flickering as if it wasnt tuned in so is it a mode to select?

Can you clarify, which way round are you trying to connect?
If it is Component (DVD) to Scart ( CRT) then here are a couple of possibilities
One could be that that the CRT scart does not support component. As far as I know this is quite a rare feature to have on CRT scarts.
Another could be confusion over component rather than composite. Component is three connectors that are video signal only ( no sound) whereas composite is one connector for video and often there will then be two connectors for sound (L+R Stereo).
Are you sure you are trying to connect via component? If so how will you connect for sound?
OR
Are you trying to connect Scart ( DVD) to component ( CRT)?
Again lack of audio signal applies, plus component on CRT is also rare

Just reread your OP . Doh
Answers in the Title
You mention buying a component to scart cable not composite .
Component is not the correct connectors.

Component is not the correct connectors. | Yes I know what composite is but I want scart rgb quality and hoped there was a way to do this as I want better than composite quality.

From OP I thought you wanted to get it working, that's all.
If all you have outputing from the player is composite and HDMI, I can't see how you will get an RGB Scart signal from either of these.

Hi,
Component video and rgb aren't the same so the two aren't compatible.
Some tvs (e.g. some Loewe ones ) will accept component video on their scart inputs but the vast majority of tvs won't.
You can buy converter boxed that will convert component to rgb but they will cost you.
Best option is to go and buy a cheap dvd player with an rgb output or go and buy a second hand x-box (although I thought that they weren't that great as dvd players) for £25.

The cable you bought is designed to connect a component device to a scart that can be switched from RGB to component like a Topfield 5800. It's very unusual to find a DVD player without a RGB output.
