Toshiba HD DVD Recorder E48 error code

Hi

Have new Toshiba HD DVD Recorder
Am getting the error 'Cannot record to this HDD' with error code E48 which isn't in the manual

Also the HD menu is greyed out. Any ideas

Has it ever worked?

I don't think there is any mystery in the error message... Evidently the HDD or its control system has a problem.

I suggest trying one power reset [ Disconnect from the mains for 10 minutes ] and if there is no change then seek a replacement from the supplier.

Thanks for your reply. No it has never worked (ok on dvd rw's though) Have tried disconnecting power but no luck. Back to the retailer. how annoying !

Just one important check here:

I'm not familiar with Toshiba operating systems but normally for the HDD to be accessible then the HDD 'side ' of the machine has to be selected.

Is that maybe the issue?

[ Edit - On second thoughts I would not expect that to produce an error code ]
