Unhappy Connect Sony TV to DVD/VCR and Humax PVR - help please

I would be very grateful for any help (in very simple terminology please) for the following set up.

Sony Bravia KDL32V4000U
Panasonic DVD/VCR DMR-EZ48VEB
Humax 9300T PVR

I am trying to connect them all together and am totally confused. I would like to be able to record on the Humax and on the DVD/VCR if possible.

Thank you.

You require 2 fully wired scarts.

Connect a scart from the TV output scart of the Humax 9300 to AV2 of the EZ48 (Bottom scart socket)

Connect another scart lead from AV1 of the EZ48 (Top scart) to an RGB capable socket on the TV (probably AV1)

Select AV2 as the input on the EZ48 to record from the Humax.

The Humax will be visible when the EZ48 is OFF, or when the EZ48 is recording from its internal tuner.

Re: Connect Sony TV to DVD/VCR and Humax PVR - help please

Hi

I'm really grateful for your help but sorry to sound extremely dim, but how do you 'select AV2 as the input on the EZ48' - is that on the remote control?

What are 'fully wired' scarts - I have some scarts but I didn't realise that there were different types?

Would the tv aerial go into the humax or the EZ48? It is in the humax at the moment and I take it I need to do something with the RF(?) cables they sent in the box? There are three of them!

Can I record directly from the tv (freeview) onto the EZ48.

Apologies for all the questions and thanks again.

a fully wired scart lead is a scart lead with all 21 pins wired , whereas some are half-populated and only have something like 9 pins connected out of the 21 , and so they only allow composite connections and no rgb.
a 21 pin scart allows both composite and rgb and it is the RGB elements you require

the outside aerial should go to the humax , then to the recorder and finally to the tv in a "daisy-chain" , so it loops in and out of each device finishing at the tv aerial input socket

its difficult to record from the tv tuner onto a recorder , and although it can be done its frowned upon unless you know what you are doing

it ties up the tv to the channel you are recording , and you can get interference down the cable onto your recording , and its usually in composite quality only and so not as good as a proper recording like on the humax

ideally your recorder should contain a freeview digital tuner inside and you would use that , like on a panasonic ex78 or ex88 or a sony 890

To select AV2, use the channel up/down buttons on the EX78 remote and go backwards through the channels 4,3,2,1, etc and keep on going, cycling through the AV inputs until you reach AV2. - It will show as A2 on the machine's display.

As explained above by ramjet.
Just use the scarts you have - if you have them.
If you are buying them, then ensure they are a 'fully wired' type.

Daisychain the connections as explained by ramjet above.
You do not need to use all the cables.
Just use what ever is needed to achieve your requirements.

Yes you can record Freeview - but you do not do so from the TV, but from the EZ48's own internal freeview tuner.

Once you have it setup you will find it is easy to do using the EPG to setup timer programmes.

Not sure this is correct with the current Panasonic recorders. Pretty sure that when recording, the recorder will output the program being recorded and not an external source.

Thank you both for all your assistance, I really appreciate it. It's great to find knowledgeable people who are willing to give their valuable time helping others who are totally hopeless!

Thanks again

It certainly used to be like that ... which is why I always used to stipulate that the recording must be a timer recording [ when it would definitely be possible to see the external source ] but it is actually possible to do this on this current generation.

I will have to try it in the shop tomorrow, but from memory the DMREZ48 doesn't pass through an external source when recording from its internal tuner. I've not tried it with my DMREX768 but the manual says this (page 18):

Notes

You cannot watch satellite programmes

during timer recording.

Or is it me missing something?

Yes ....I've seen that note ... and wondered what they were talking about as it is not my experience, [ on an EX78... but that same note is present in it's manual ] and which would make it unlike all previous Panasonics with RGB in.

It seems a standard bit of 'Panasonicalese'

Probably the intent is to mean you cannot watch satellite whilst timer recording satellite rather than from the internal tuner.
