'Radio' HD DVDR recordings to CD?

Hi folks,

As you can see, I am not regular enough here to have remembered the basics - which you may take to indicate that the advice received here to date has been excellent and solved a number of problems for me.

Current advice wanted is on how to transfer 'Radio' recordings I have made on the hard drive of a Sony HXD870 to CD in a form that an ordinary car cd player can cope with. I find the series record feature very handy for collecting Radio 4 series that are often only given in short daily bursts, and these can be recorded at the lowest resolution and edited together during copy to dvd, but while the Sony can read cd's it can't write to them.

As my music collection is still on tape and I'm unlikely ever to have the time to transfer it to disc or pc hard drive etc, I am not used to this type of process and so would like tips on how to proceed. My pc does have a recording dvd/cd drive but it has been mostly used for playing rather than recording.

Use a piece of software such as MP3 Direct Maker (MP3 Direct Maker - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com) to create MP3 files from your DVDs. Then use software such as Windows Media Player (or your CD burning software) to convert the MP3s to CD Audio tracks and burn to CD.

One thing you will need to check before you embark on the process is to establish whether your car CD player supports MP3.

Not all do.. and if it doesn't, then you will have to work in the .wav format.

Gavtech says I may have to use .wav, while Broadz says I may have to convert MP3 to 'cd audio'. Am I to understand cd audio is .wav?

To clarify... Standard CD's are based on .wav audio files...but you cannot just put .wav files on a CD and have it play.

Those .wav files must be properly authored onto a CD with authoring software which will convert them to CDa files [CD Audio]

That will make a standard CD Audio disc which will play in any standard CD player, including your car.

However, you CAN just place MP3 files onto a CD ROM data disc and they will play in your car ... but ONLY provided that your car player supports MP3, and as not all do, you should check before you embark on the project.

Your car handbook should tell you .. and if it does, it should also tell you what kind of folder and file naming system is used because that must also be followed or discs will not play.
