Looking to buy a DVD Recorder

I'm after a DVD Recorder. It has to have:

A HDD, so you can record without tapes or discs.
The ability to be hooked up to a VCR via scart, for transferring decrepit tapes to shiny new DVDs. Upscaling would be nice, but isn't vital.
The ability to record from all TV modes including digital. I also have a cable link to the Sky box downstairs that's currently hooked up to the VCR; would it be possible to tune the DVD Rec to receive that, so I can record from Sky, or would I need to buy a digisender to have that ability?

I have a Samsung TV, but I don't know if it makes any difference as to which DVD Rec I should go for.

This is what I'm currently tracking:

SONY RDRHXD890B at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

Any comments welcome!

Yes - get it. It's as good as they come and at an amazing price these days.

The current quality alternatives don't have an analogue tuner which you will require to be able to receive your sky from downstairs. [ If you can receive it on your VCR then you will be able to receive it on any unit that has an analogue tuner]

So, it's my only choice really then. Thanks for the heads up on the analogue receiver info. I can also connect this one to a VCR via scart to transfer tapes to DVD?

Yes. No problem.

[As long as they are self -recorded.
Commercial tapes will not copy onto any DVDR.]

Thanks for your help, none of them are commercial tapes, so they'll be fine.

Re: Looking to buy a DVD Recorder

Glad I found this thread. This unit sounds exactly what I am looking for. Seems a decent price too compared to how much I was looking at paying a few months back for another Sony unit.
