Problem with Sony RDR-HXD770

New to this great forum and I'm sorry that my first post is with a problem.
Sorry -model is HXD770
Having just bought the Sony above and connected via HDMI. On changing the output setting to 1080P, I have the onscreen message 'out of range'.
No probs I thought, just press stop and tray open per insructions and all will be resolved.
No.!
Cant get back in to the HDMI menu to change it back to 1080I.Cant get anything other than a black screen with 'out of range' on it.
I must be missing something obvious and I'm sure you guys will have the answers.

Re: Problem with Sony HDR770

connect the 770 to your tv with a scart or phono lead , use that input and you should be able to access the menu and change it

Re: Problem with Sony HDR770

Thanks Ramjet.
Tried that but you can only access the hdmi menu when hdmi output is selected otherwise those menu functions are not selectable.
Catch 22 or what!

Troubleshooting pages tell you to connect via other video jack and then change HDMI settings.

When you are pressing STOP and OPEN/CLOSE make sure you use recorder buttons and not the remote.

Re: Problem with Sony HDR770

page 158 has the factory reset instructions

Re: Problem with Sony RDR-HXD770

Just an update on the above.
Tried the stop, open & close on the front of the recorder -nothing!
Tried the stop, standby button - Eureka-reset the machine and afrter a few alterations in menu, HDMI picture restored.
Only problem now is that the HDMI picture on any resolution is very red so have gone back to composite that only outputs at 576I but is by far the best picture.
Thanks to you all for your help in this.
A word of warning to anyone thinking of trying the 1080P HDMI setting on this range of machines - DONT!
