MP3's WON'T PLAY!

I cannot seem to play any mp3's on my Philips dvd recorder - it plays all types of cd's but not mp3's - any ideas? I get a bunch of numbers come up on the machine and if I press any buttons, it switches off.

Without the model number of the recorder it's difficult to advise. IIRC though as a general Philips implementation you can't play mp3s on a DVD disc, but you can on a CD.
