Sony RDR-HXD870. No sound when tuned to Sky

Please can anyone help me? Though beware..I am a woman and not technically minded! For some odd reason this evening, I have no sound when watching sky through the DVD. Sound is ok for all other channels via the DVD and in all other respects via the tv (Sony Bravia) including Sky and other inputs eg integral Freeview through tv. Sound is ok for everything except viewing Sky though the DVD. The set up is unchanged for about ayear apart from retuning for digital which was some time ago.

According to hubbie, the connections are quite complicated (he isn't technically minded either) but all has been working very well until now.

Is there an easy solution? Did we sit on a button on a remote? IIs it more likely to be a connection or a tuning problem? All help greatly appreciated. Will return to this thread tomorrow - if I can find it! Bit of a newbie...

Thanks for reporting back... the cause of the problem.. and apologies I missed this, as I would have directed you to this most common of causes that accounts for this problem.

FYI- the scart can 'skew' in the opposite direction and produce sound but no vision. [ depending on the signal transfer method being employed. ]

Thank you - another lesson learned but they get more difficult to grasp the older one gets!

you can buy locking scarts that cut down on these problems a lot

and anytime you get missing sound or video its always worth checking the scart connections on any device

as for this problem , sky wasnt "tuned in" as you do not tune in scart connections , so it would be easier to have said missing sound from sky but ok from the sony recorder using scart leads as the connection method

that would have indicated the problem lay in the scart connection from sky box to the recorder , as you found out

if you were to tune sky in , it would be analogue sky over the rf connection from the skybox rf output to the analogue aerial input on the recorder , tuned in , and selected on ATV using the input button and the tuned in channel number

Thank you, that is very useful information, not sure that we understand the second half but we do get the 'tuned in' bit!
