DVD recorder doesn't connect to D8 Camcorder via composite cable

Please help. I try to record a family video to a DVD recorder from an old D8 Camcorder via composite cable. But the DVD recorder keep saying not connected. Anyone knows what's wrong. It's no problem to connect and record from the new camcorder via firewire cable. But this old camcorder doesn't come with firewire port.

Many thanks,

Re: DVD recorder doesn't connect to D8 Camcorder via composite cable

I'm intrigued which method of transfer here you may be trying to use here, because I don't think the DVDR is capable of generating that message when using that input.

When using the composite input , do not attempt to use any special camcorder system commands on the DVDR as they will only apply when using the DV input... which would account for the message.

It should work if you simply connect the camcorder, use the DVDR input select button to select the appropriate input.
Press play on the camcorder and press record on the DVDR - Monitor the output via TV.

Good luck.

Re: DVD recorder doesn't connect to D8 Camcorder via composite cable

When you say you can play via a composite connection do you mean connected directly to tv or thru the dvd recorder?

Also is your camcorder a uk model playing back pal video or is it imported and records/plays ntsc video?

If its ntsc there may be a setting to change on the sony.

kurrajong, you need to respond to gavtech's suggestions, otherwise this will end up as a tedious guessing game (which no one will want to play).

It is probably better to record to the hard disc first rather than direct to DVD ... but please address the points in Post 4 as Ian urges.

Re: DVD recorder doesn't connect to D8 Camcorder via composite cable

Is it possible that he is just connecting to the composite outputs on the rear of the machine rather than the composite inputs on the front of the machine ?

Good suggestion. Quite possible...but we'll never know until we get direct feedback.

Kurrajong?
