Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi

Hi every one
Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi
I don’t know if any brand is better than a one another but I am not too keen on the Philips as my current Dvd Recorder (not a combi) one just plays now
most time it will not even record & if it manages to record it will not let me finalise the disc or play it again just says DISC ERAR

I have a SONY KDL32V4000 LCD TELEVISION so should I stick with a sony one?
Will I have any joy as I am looking to spend £100-£200 at the most?

Re: Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi

forget the vcr part and get a hdd/dvd recorder like the sony 870 from amazon at £180 , and use any old vcr until you have transferred tapes to disk , then scrap the vcr

Re: Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi

Sony don't make any DVDR/VCR combis any more, or at least that's what the guy in the Sony centre told me, so that idea goes out of the window. In fact, I'd guess there are only maybe half a dozen or so around in the shops now: a couple of Panasonics, an LG, a Samsung, a Toshiba, maybe still a Daewoo, and ... I can't remember the others. I've got a Panasonic EZ48, which I did manage to get from Comet for £180, although I don't suppose that offer's still on - its usual RRP is around £250. It's way too highly spec'd for my needs (and the user guide is driving me nuts), but I needed one with Freeview and a few extra facilities, and it was virtually the only one that qualified. Can't speak for the others, of course, except that they're all cheaper, so you might have some luck with one of those.

Re: Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi

Many people here will recommend that if you've still got a working VCR, then you should use that combined with a straightforward HDD/DVDR unit. I didn't have a workoing VCR, so I elected to buy a combi. I got the Toshiba RD-XV48DTKB and have been very pleased with it. Its a DVDR/VCR/HDD (160Gb) Combi with Freeview and has peformed virtually faultlessly since I bought it in August. Beyond Television currently have it on sale at £184 which is very substantially cheaper than either the Sony or Panasonic combis. Oh, and I'd add that for most of the time I've had it its been used with a Sony TV.

Re: Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi

Hi All,

Sorry for Hijacking this post. I'm looking to get a DVD recorder with HDD. I see that some of them have freeview.
I currently only receive signals through a Satellite dish plugged into an old sky box. Would the DVD recorder with freeview take the connection from the sat dish and basically do everything my old sky box does ?

Thanks in advance for any info.

No unfortunately not.

You can use a recorder in combination with a Satbox ... but not instead of.

There are new DVDR's coming out with Twin Freesat tuner and HD and Bluray capability capability - but not surprisingly they are very expensive.

Have you considered the Sky+ option?

Re: Need some help Looking for a Dvd Recorder/Vcr Combi

Thanks for the amazing quick response.

I have Sky+ in my main sitting room and have to say that I think it is fantastic. The new DVD recorder is for a room in my attic. I currently use my old sky box in there just to pick up the free channels on satellite. I need a DVd player in there and thought I would go for a recorder with HDD and hoped the freeview capability would free me of the old sky box.

Thanks anyway

Is providing a Freeview DVDR with a conventional aerial out of the question?

That would make a DVDR 'self-contained' and functional.

2 fully wired scarts required plus another scart [ Fully wired or not doesn't matter]

FW Scart from Sky TV socket outlet to DVDR Line 1 [Top Scart ]

FW Scart from Line 1 of DVDR [ Bottom scart ] to an RGB enabled socket on TV.

Remaining scart from VCR AV1 to VCR socket of sky.

You will be able to copy from VCR to DVDR when skybox is switched to standby.

To force pass-through of sky when recording freeview on DVDR, press the Channel+ button on the DVDR unit itself.

This arrangement gives you DVDR and Sky in RGB quality and also copying from sky to DVDR in RGB.

RGB is not applicable to VCR's
