Smile DMREH50 - Can't record when watching region 1 or 3 discs?

I have the Panny DMREH50 multi region. It reads region 1 discs along with region 3 when you are not recording but if you either have timer record on standby or are actually recording it doesn't.

It says that it is the wrong format and you have to manually change to NTSC but this then means it scrambles what you are trying to record. Any suggestions?

If not, I was going to get the new SCHT17 system to complete my theatre system but may have to consider the 880 system for an additional multiregion player.

Appreciate anyone's help on this.

Thanks

As you have found out. The DVD needs PAL to record with. You can't watch a NTSC DVD when recording or have the timer set to record. You can watch a PAL DVD though.

I wouldn't be surprised that all DVD Recorders are the same.

Just as a thought - could I use the component connections aswell and run them simultaneously or won't that work either??

e;g - Scart from plasma - DVD recorder for recording
Component leads from DVD recorder to TV for playback?

I am just living in a dream world here!!

I third that!

I discovered this major inconvenience shortly after purchasing my Pioneer DVR-420H a few weeks ago.

Another niggle is that when the recorder kicks in to record analogue TV if I happen to be watching Sky I have to leap from my seat and hit the scart pass-through button which is on the recorder but not the remote. Grrrr.

It now means I may have to reinstate my old DVD player and completely defeats the object of trying to loose one metal box from under the TV!

I have always regarded DVD recorders as just recorders. They can make excellent players but, I think they should just stick to recording.

I don't think that will work. The recorder is still set to PAL.
