advice for newbie please

Hi, hope post in right place. My son has a DS lite and when playing with his friends he said that his friend had a card that goes in the gaming slot but looks like an SD card with a littler card inside it. (Reckon its like the micro cards you get for your phone) well he now wants one. Can anybody tell me what these are, where to get them and what they are used for. Can he download games onto it from the pc or can you listen to music files or watch films etc. Do I need to get seperate software to use the card thingies. Thanks in advance for any help.

Take a look in this thread, but please avoid any discussion of piracy (e.g. downloading DS games illegally from the internet).

There are a number of cards available for the DS Lite (proper name for them is Slot1 Flash Cards) most require you to purchase a Micro SD Card, this is what you must load the applicable firmware (operating system so to speak) onto depending on manufacture of the card. Then you can install music, films and other things like Homebrew games etc, cannot go into full detail of the cards capabilities due to them being illegal.

I have used most of the cards available, purchasing many for family and friends (why I often have some sitting at home) If you’re still unsure what they are, drop me a PM.

Re: advice for newbie please

The cards themselves are not illegal and can be used in the UK on the DS; but these cards can be used with illegal software, the talk of which is not allowed on this forum.

Homebrew (sorry non alcoholic) is the name for open licence games and software applications that folk write for you to download play/use free and legally on your Slot1 flash card.
