DS or Dingoo? Help Decide

Hi, one of my friends keeps asking me which of the above he should go for? mainly for use on transport to and from work etc.

He likes old school snes / megadrive games, strret fighter, mario kart and the likes but also enjoys new games.

The dingoo is basically an emulator that plays such games but obviously wont have the ability to play new higher spec games.

Can these games be run on a DS?

He also wants to be able to watch movies sometimes, the dingoo supports this, does the DS?

He's probably looking around about the same price for each so what do you guys recommend he should do or go for?

as much opinions as possible appreciated

(for the word i recommended the ds to him)

added a poll aswell if any could be so kind to input :D

Re: DS or Dingoo? Help Decide

It's a tough one to recommend really.

I have both & they both have their merits to be honest.

DS will have constant support & games released for a long time to come

Dingoo is basically just a glorified Emulator, there are a few free games to download from Dingoo direct (7 Days for example) but dont expect much support apart from firmware updates & possible new emulators (MAME/Full Burn Alpha PLEASE!!!!!!! )

There are SNES/NES/Neo Geo emulators available for the DS but I've not been able to get them to work so it might be worth him invetsigating those as well??

Also there is a way to play movies on the DS as well, again this is something I havent looked into too much.
I've played back some Anime using my Dingoo & I was impressed with the quality, looked good, very crisp & clear on the screen, colours where bright & no noticable blurring.

One thing the Dingoo has over the DS is TV out as well...havent tried mine yet but it's one of the points that sold me on it in the first place as it means I can pop my Anime on the Dingoo plug it in to the TV & watch without me having to stream it all from my Laptop via Tversity to my Xbox360

It really is tough to call.

To be honest if he buys a 2nd hand DS Lite & a brand new Dingoo it shouldnt cost him anymore than a brand new DS Lite with games...Dingoo is £60 delivered & a 2nd Hand DS Lite is about £60 too so the pair for £120 isnt bad for the best of both worlds

it is a tough choice at the moment as both systems have some positives that the other doesnt

He is on a budget of around about £70, so just rite now he doesnt have the option of buying

What do you find yourself using more for games?

Re: DS or Dingoo? Help Decide

No problem your welcome

To be honest I've only had the Dingoo since Tuesday so I'm playing around with that a lot more so it's too early to say but then on the other hand I have maybe 10/12 games for my DS of which I only really play 3 (Football Director/Ketsui/Proffesor Layton)
But on the other hand with the Dingoo I have complete catalogues of MD/SNES/Neo Geo/GBA/NES/CPS games which means I have a never ending supply of great classic software many of which I have never played before so in all honesty I can say I would expect the Dingoo to take the lion share of my handheld gaming.

But again it's personal preference, once you've played the few old games you enjoyed at the time & run out of retro classics you actually want to play (Lets be honest not everything released were A+ titles were they? ) then the Dingoo becomes a bit of a novelty.
Whereas the DS will get continued support & again not all titles will be must buys but out of all the shovelware released there will be at least something that catches your eye thats worth playing.

Like I said I'm privelidged enough to own both, but if I wasnt that well off then for my money I think I'd probably have to look towards the DS mostly for it's continued support.

Although to throw something else into the mix what about a second hand PSP with Custom Firmware??
That will have all the good PSP software available & also access again to Emulators like MD/SNES/MAME/FBA these are regularly available in the sales thread for between £50-£70
I originally wanted a PSP but kept missing them in the forums sales & then noticed the Dingoo which did everything I wanted for slightly less so plumped for one of them instead...but I would still like a PSP myself at somepoint mosytly for the Bleach & Ikki Tousen games that were released in Japan so in a couple of months I expect I'll be adding one to my collection too

Anyway hope thats given you something more to think about.

Exclamation Re: DS or Dingoo? Help Decide

Hi Soundwave.

As i mentioned last night, i've been following your discussions regarding the Dingoo and am 99% certain i'm going to get one. My reasons: simply the fact that
1) it plays old school games, which i thought would be lost forever
2) it plays movies
3) can plug into a tv
4) none of my friends (including you, Vamos!!) have got one!!

Sound, where did you order yours from?

I found two places in the UK that do Dingoo A320s, delivered by recorded post, for around or under your mate's £70 budget.

One is www.dingoo.co.uk and the other is GBAX.com.

I bet either one would help out with finding games and general after-sales support. Worth sending them an email.

Thumbs up Re: DS or Dingoo? Help Decide

Hah, of course i prefer the Dingoo & im happy with its system. Its cool design, cheap price, and tons of uses makes it a great buy. As it is, it plays music and videos well, as well as Gameboy Advance, Nintendo, and some CPS2 and Neo Geo games.

Re: DS or Dingoo? Help Decide

Just to let you know I've managed to get Nes and Snes Emulators running on the DS Lite but the games are very hit and miss. Can't say I've got many that work, or work perfectly.

Quick question, how is the emulation on the Dingoo, like do most games you've tried work well? I'm interested.

Just to let you know that there is an alternative called Pandora which isn't "fully" out there yet......but as he was fed up with waiting, my bro went and bought a Dingoo as you all did (he just wants full MAME emulation which he now has) and he's very happy with it.

I heard about the Pandora probably a couple of years ago, I was under the impression it had been going for a while and was quite well known, but also quite a bit more expensive.

SmartQ II is yet another option (amongst others) but I think it's basically just a more expensive Dingoo.

Although they are a little bit of a grey area, R4 cards are pretty good for emulation and portable media.

The dingoo however, was designed to emulate games, not play new ones.
