Major problem with DS Lite/3rd party charger

Right Guys here’s my dilemma.
I work away from home a lot; when I came home I discovered I’d left my charger at work. Knowing I’d not get my charger for at least 2 weeks I bought a charger supposedly suitable for the DS lite, plugged it in and left it charging I thought.
Next day my new R4 card arrive from Memory Bits. Anyway, downloaded firmware onto SD card inserted SD card into R4 card and then into DS Lite switched on and nothing my DS doesn’t work at all now.
I’m back at work and tried the proper charger still nothing.
<snip>

My dilemma is, has the cheap charger knackered the DS or has the is it the R4 card.

Thoughts anybody.

Re: Major problem with DS Lite/R4

You haven't given enough info.
Does the DS power up at all?

If it doesn't, the charger has probably knackered it.

If it powers up and you're seeing an error or something, I'd put money on it being a firmware problem.
In which case have you double checked the E-mail Memorybits sent you about the firmware when you made the order?
I've seen loads of people with similar problems and it's invariably because they haven't followed the instructions properly.

Re: Major problem with DS Lite/R4

Oh, if it does power up, try booting it with a proper game in it.
That will tell you straight away if it's bricked.

Re: Major problem with DS Lite/3rd party charger

Sounds like this is an issue with the 3rd party charger rather than the R4 so I'll keep it separate from the R4 thread for the time being (title amended).

3rd Party chargers tend to be quite shoddy and definitely not recommended for use ime. When they charge using incorrect current/voltage/spiking, they can blow an internal fuse on the DS which results in an unresponsive console.
The link given shows you how to repair that fuse.

If it ends up being faulty R4 firmware after all (unlikely if you did as recommended and downloaded form the R4 parent company site), then I'll merge this into the R4 thread when/if confirmed .

Re: Major problem with DS Lite/3rd party charger

That's a great link, Gaffer if it has blown a fuse

I've a MAJOR problem with the following line though mate;

An alternate method is to simply solder across the two terminals

That would allow amps to go through, as opposed to the fractions of that, that are required to blow the fuse.

I might be being pedantic, but if someone was to stupidly overload the DS again, that's got to be guaranteed fatal, imo.

Just a thought

Re: Major problem with DS Lite/3rd party charger

sorry guys been at work.

The DS dose not power up at all, with the charger on the wee red light flashes on once then nothing.

The R4 software was downloaded from here .

Re: Major problem with DS Lite/3rd party charger

Probably blown a fuse then, as Gaffer says.

At least it's hopefully repairable

There is an ebay shop that sells both internal fuses for a DS for about £3 if I recall correctly.. .. .. .. a better solution?
