DS from Canada

Guys, bear with me.
My daughter has asked for a Nintendo DS for her 7th birthday.
I've been searching a little and found this website that sells them a lot cheaper than over here (Belgium).
I guess most of you know the site.
However, I know nothing about the DS, have even never held one in my hands.
I already know there are no regions for a DS and that I can buy a cable to charge it through USB, so that takes care of the voltage problem (correct?).

Now, my daughter is french-speaking.
Is there some sort of set up menu on a DS to select a language or is a DS bought in Canada English only?
As far as games are concerned (that are also a lot cheaper abroad than here), I see that all titles are in English. I suppose this means the game is English only and there are no other languages available?

Any information is most welcome.
If you have any other links for me with information or web shops with good prices, please post them.

Re: DS from Canada

Without actually seeing/owning a DS from a foreign country, I'm pretty sure that all DS' come with the option to change the language to english, japanese, french, spanish, german, and italian.

This of course only applies to the ds menu (which in all honesty isn't going to be used much at all - so even if it were english only it wouldn't matter much). This does NOT affect the language of the games themselves. The only way of knowing what languages the game comes in is to check the back of the box covers themselves (or the site saying so themselves).

Many games come out in english only, some have multiple languages in one card and others have multiple languages in multiple cards. For example, there's only one version of "Advance Wars" released in Europe that has the option to select from about 5 different languages (so it doesn't matter where you get it from as long as it's from europe), whereas with Pokemon Diamond those released in the UK are in English only, with those in France being in french only).

Re: DS from Canada

I've bought many things from VG+ and can't recommend them highly enough .. .. .. .. .. including my wife's DSlite.

I can confirm that, as dice suspects, there is an option to change the language to French, German, English, Japanese, Spanish or Italian.

Some games (e.g.Mario Kart DS) will pick up the language selected by the settings in the DS.

The only way to know for definite is to do a bit of research prior to buying a specific game.
