Re: Moon

I've played a few minutes of it for 'research' purposes and it seems alright. They seem to have done very well with the 3d engine.

I tell you what, those visuals look great . Is there a free demo around somewhere?

Never mind re:demo.....found a youtube review here:
YouTube - Nintendo DS - Moon DS Preview/Review

Reminds me a bit of Doom on the the old DOS.

Personally I thought it looked like a bad Metroid Prime. I still do after seeing that vid, but I think the controls look better than Metroid. I hated playing that with the touchscreen

Thanks for the vid, I might give this a go.

The video review on ign has some good footage of gameplay.

Despite, or rather because of, the amount of effort that's gone into the graphics and presentation this feels like a huge wasted opportunity.

If only as much time had been taken in refining the story and otherwise simplistic puzzles this could've been a sort of sci-fi version of Hotel Dusk.

Instead it's just a bland, repetitive shoot 'em-up whose inevitable failure will only discourage other developers.

IN SHORT: One of the best looking DS games ever made, but the gameplay just dosen't live up to the visuals.

PROS: Superb graphics and excellent controls. Well balanced range of weapons and some fun gimmicks.

CONS: Extremely repetitive in terms of level design and enemies. Underdeveloped story and puzzles.

SCORE: 4/10 Out: Now (US), TBA (UK)
Source: GameCentral - Teletext

TBH from what I've played, I'd have to agree with this review (although the score is abit harsh IMO).

Moon

MovieTyme - Moon DVD - Nintendo DS & DSi

Gotta say, I am lovin' this FPS. Easily a M:PH beater - great story, fast paced, smooth 60fps, excellent atmospheric sound. I can't fault it.

Quote:
Developed by Renegade Kid, Moon is an intense sci-fi, action-adventure title for Nintendo DS. Moon places gamers on the cold lunar surface in the year 2058. Researchers of the newly established Lunar Base Alpha are shocked when they discover a sealed, alien hatch during construction of a new lunar base, but it's a shock that soon pales in comparison to what they find beyond the hatch.

# Renegade Kid’s patented formula of sick and twisted FPS adventure features a cinematic storyline and white-knuckle shooting action.
# Built on the Renegade Engine 2.0, Moon delivers rich environments and robust FPS gameplay that screams at a blistering 60 FPS.
# Collect alien artifacts and challenge insane difficulty levels to unlock premium hidden content - only the hardcore need apply.
# Annihilate alien hostiles as you rip up the lunar landscape in your turret-equipped buggy, or pilot the Remote Search Droid to delve into the Moon’s darkest corners.
# Deliver Major Kane’s style of intergalactic diplomacy as you wield powerful alien technology like the Lepton Spread – a particle shotgun that can tear your enemies a new black hole.

Not out in the UK 'till 26th June.

Re: Moon

I remember seeing a preview of this game in the official nintendo mag and it looked promising. I may get this later this month then as I don't have any DS FPS games.

Re: Moon

You will not regret it. Really is a fine game, one of the best I have played on any platform.

Edit - Ok....that was maybe a bit over the top! But I am enjoying it :-)

Re: Moon

Hmmm....Maybe its just me then....Or I like crap games!!

That review does seem somewhat harsh - 4/10 would suggest to me that the game play was flawed in some way, certainly don't agree with that. Fair enough you don't need to be in Mensa to work it out but I am still finding a lot of fun my self.

Moon Review for DS - GameSpot

Pretty balanced review here. 7/10. Would go a bit higher myself, but as I get further in to it agree somewhat with the repetitiveness comments (although I have played worse and it does look lush :-))

Re: Moon

Well I just read the official Nintendo mag's review of this and they gave it a very low 54%, their main gripes being that there wasn't any creativity in the game whatsoever, each level was virtually the same only with things aranged slightly differently. But they did say that the controls were spot on. So from this and the other reviews I've seen, it seems the general consensus is that the game is very repetitive and because of those, a little dull.

I'm glad I played it before I read any reviews.
