Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

I've been trying to find some info about this game too without much luck. According to the game listing on Sendit.com though, you are actually able to play people online. Taken from the description on Sendit:

SCRABBLE.

The Best-Selling Word Game On-The-Go.

Improve your word skills against opponents all over the globe with Scrabble 2009 Edition. Play classic Scrabble
or Brain-Teasing mini-games whenever you like.

-Progress from a Scrabble novice to world champion in single-player story mode.
-Play with friends wherever you are using the Nintendo DS Wireless Communications.
-Check your words with the latest Collins Official Scrabble Dictionary.
-Play Hold 'Em and Tempest-two fun mini-games that add a new twist to the classic game.

Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

I'd come across the same write-up before but since it isn't exactly wide spread I hadn't taken it seriously.

Nothing on Ubi's web site

If Ubi are indeed planning an update I don't know what they could include over the rather good 2007 game... other than the glaringly obvious oversight of online play

Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

Just come across this info on Kotaku...

Board Games: EA Bring Family Game Night To Xbox Live

Looks like EA now have the Hasbro licence and will be bringing a new version of Scrabble to DS in March.

Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

Don't know if you knew this already but I have found that Scrabble 2009 is out on 5th February 2009 for Nintendo DS.

You can find the source here.

Hope this helps!

Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

Nice one! I also note that your link lists Scrabble 2009 from Ubisoft.

Scrabble for Xbox is listed as US only. Perhaps EA have the US rights and Ubi have the European rights to scrabble

My wife had this a while back(think she ended up giving it away as was too hard for her, not being a native English speaker). I actually thought it was an ok little game but was surpised to see no WiFi option as the game was crying out for it IMO. Could even be interested myself if the sequel had online play, although it's fair to say even my own English skills(including spelling) are pretty lousy

Wonder it that means locally or online? Could be either really.

Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

My wife and I both have copies of Scrabble 2007 and regularly enjoy some head-to-head DS Scrabble. She played it a lot solo for a while (while I was busy on Xbox ) but hit a wall with the AI difficulty. If it had online play and some sort of online career mode / ranking system I can see her spending hours on this... and probably myself too

She'd also nag her Scrabble loving friends and family to invest in a DS and copy of the game. Come on Ubi, Scrabble 2009 with online play makes sense!

Really no point re-releasing Scrabble for DS without offering online play IMO... and voice support

Being turn based so effectively lag free Scrabble is surely a perfect candidate for online play. Only problem is games can go on a while so drop-outs could be an issue.

Re: Scrabble 2009 Nintendo DS

Play (and some other places) have put up a write up...

Play.com (UK) : Scrabble: 2009 Edition : Nintendo DS - Free Delivery

Listed in the features is:

Quote:
Play Scrabble against friend, family and online opponents. Play on the same DS through the hot-seat mode or wirelessly wherever you are.
But no wi-fi emblem on the box art. I really hope this is going to offer a true online mode!

So it's a "yes!", followed by , they certainly do like to like keeping the uncertainty going with this one don't they

The lack of the WiFi logo on the box art could mean one of two things I guess, either it's an old and not the current box-art on display at play.com, or Wi-Fi was planned but then for some reason later removed(have known this happen before with a few DS games).

Looks like release is now 20th March. Still unsure as to whether it will offer online competitive play
