Soul Bubbles

It's been released and widely promoted (only 50% of that is true) .. .. .. this great DS puzzle / action / exploration game has you guiding bubbles around a course, avoiding obstacles etc etc.

I'm no reviewer so I'll give you this link to the ONM review .. .. ..

http://www.officialnintendomagazine....e.php?id=10254

My thoughts? From the first moment I turned my DS on I've liked this game. The disclaimer on the title screen is worth the purchase price alone.

Then into the game itself. I was a bit disturbed by the first request being for me to blow into the microphone .. .. .. .. "One of those 'clever' control system games" I thought .. .. .. but so far that's been the only time! Control is mainly by stylus as you guide your bubble through the level avoiding spikes and thieves, and searching for items that you need to collect to progress.

I'm loving it (to paraphrase a well known ad slogan)!! I think it has the feel of Lostwinds so if you liked that, you should like this too.

Re: Soul Bubbles

I've heard a lot of good things about this game, seems to get compared to the highly rated Loco Roco(or whatever it was called) on the PSP which I never got to try(sold my PSP just before the demo released).

Might look into this one the next time I find the urge to pick up another DS game.

Re: Soul Bubbles

One very minor niggle about this game .. .. .. .. there are 'help' blocks (that look very much like tombstones with a questionmark on them) that appear AFTER you have first encountered a new challenge or problem .. .. .. .. I admit that having them before would remove the thought process and therefore the challenge but after you've worked it out it seems pointless to tell you how to do it .. .. .. .. But so far that's the only bad thing I can say about it.

It really is a good game and worthy of purchase.

Re: Soul Bubbles

I got this at the weekend (along with Cooking Guide) and must say I've hardly been able to put down my DS since starting it up! Like most of the best DS games, the concept is so simple, yet the game is so addictive!

After the intro I too was a bit worried I would spend my whole time blowing on my DS but as you say, you only have to do it the once, then you just use the touch screen and stylus.

I'm no reviewer either but I just thought I'd post to give it my, albeit worthless, seal of approval!

Also, a quick tip for those that dont like to blow ()... just rub your finger quickly over the mic to get the same effect. Saves any embarassment on public transport etc. I discovered this when playing Lego Indy on the train and had to blow out some torches.

Re: Soul Bubbles

As I'm currently Wii-less my DS (and therefore Soul Bubbles) has got a lot of extra attention. I've got through to Agartha, the level that need you to have found 50 Calabash, that is accurately subtitled "Where death awaits..."

Learning Curve? Cliff more like.. .. .. .. .. the extra difficulty caught me totally by surprise . I'm off to replay Anirniit a few times .. .. .. that level is FUN!

Re: Soul Bubbles

Sounds like I'm one of the only people not to enjoy this game, it all started off very well but then didn't really go any where for me. Once I got to a level that seemed to be trial and error on where your bubbles would end up (bubbles getting pulled into holes) I gave up on it.

It was however nice to see something different being tried out.
