Anyone looking forward to this? I loved the DC version and it's nice to know that this game has been getting great reviews (9/10 from Edge and 10/10 from Eurogamer).

It will be released in the UK in August and personally I can't wait!

Well you're not the only one Tejstar, (though judging by the lack of response you could be mistaken). I'm looking forward to this one big time (as I do with any Treasure game) I've not played any other version but they seldom let us down.

IGN have reviewed this and gave it 8.1 - not bad.

Rather than serving as a brand new shoot 'em up title, Bangai-O Spirits is more of an homage to the original game and to developer Treasure. It's a shooter that celebrates shooters. The approach certainly limits the game's audience, but if you're a fan of the genre it should please you to know that Treasure loves it just as much as us and made this game just for us. The fact that everything in the game is unlocked from the start is a questionable design choice that leaves it a little unfocused. And it's hard as hell. But in a time when so many games are being dumbed down to win over the grandma crowd, it's a relief to know companies like Treasure and publisher D3 still have the guts to release quirky, challenging fare like this.

Another positive review from 1UP!

Despite the high challenge level, Bangai-O is most definitely a "pick-up-and-play" experience, but it's best not to try and clear large parts of the game in one sitting -- and you won't, unless you know you're awesome. But even if you're not, you'll come back to it often.

I'll continue to post to myself on this one, but Gamespot reviewed this and gave it 8.0. Okay so it's not had super-duper scores but for fans of the original DC classic this will be a must have it seems.

Bangai-O Spirits requires considerably more thought than your typical shooter, but it is still fundamentally a shooter, and a great one at that. The play control is tight, the weapons at your disposal are powerful, and the levels are packed with explosive action. Best of all, there should be no shortage of new content in the future with the exceptional level editor. This is a spectacularly over-the-top game that any shooter fan with a penchant for serious challenge would do well to check out.

Played this last night. When I say played I mean I went through the 10 part guide which tells me how to play the game. Seems like a lot of fun. I'm goign to play a bit more at lunch today so I will report back with a lot more information.

Had a quick read through that review and it sounds insane! The video reminds me of Turrican a bit (aah, now that was a classic game ).

I may pop into town later and see if they have a playable demo...

Personally, I believed the hype that Teletext's Game Central were giving it, tried it myself, and it's good but just not one of my fav's.

One feature I do love is the sound load, I thought that type of tech died when the last of the ZX Spectrums and Commodore 64's were made. Give it time, and there will be YouTube vids showing what your created level is like and then you can add the sound file at the end for any other user to enjoy.
