Good games for the DS (current & future) discussion thread

As title

I am tempted to get a DS too after getting the Wii the other day. What games are good to tempt me to get a DS too

Re: What games are good for DS

Hi Rookie.

Unfortunately, there are thousands of DS games available around the world (and seeing as the DS is region free, you can play games from anywhere).

Have a read through the forum to get an idea but here are some great starters for you to have a look at:

Mario Kart DS
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Horuglass
New Super Mario Bros.
Prism: Light the Way
Tank Battles

....and that's only 5

Re: What games are good for DS

In addition to what Gaffer has mentioned here's a few more to check out...

Bomberman
Worms 2
Animal Crossing
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games
Mario vs Donkey Kong 2
Trauma Center 2
Bleach: The Blade of Fate
The Simpsons

Just a few that I always seem to find myself playing.

But yeah, there's far too many good games to play on the DS. Loads of Brain Training style games if they float your boat (they make me feel like a thicko) and most of the big name games get a DS version too, NFS, Fifa, PES etc etc. Having said that I tend to find games that were designed with the touch screen in mind are better than games which are just ported over to make more money.

When I had a PSP I used to quaff at the simplicity of the DS and how it's graphics werent as good but after playing one that all changed. The games are infinitely more fun to play compared to the PSP, which is what it's all about really. It's not hard to see why they're so popular.

Just buy one, you wont regret it

Re: What games are good for DS

Some of my personal favourites, although I don't buy many DS games to be honest so there are no doubt loads of great games I haven't tried yet:

Zoo Keeper - one of the most addictive puzzlers I've ever played
Picross - as a slower thinking type game it's hugely satisfying to play
Mario Kart - don't play it these days but it must have clocked up months!
Yoshis Island - still the best side scrolling platformer on the DS IMO
Geometry Wars: Galaxies - superb and even includes the classic XBLA "Evolved"

Will probably be picking up a couple of new games soon ready for my long flight in a few weeks time, might go for Front Mission as could do with a good turn based tactics game, not sure which other yet.

Any good games coming out?

I've had a ds for ages and haven't bought anything recently.

Seems to be a bit slow on the game front so is there anything soon to be released that i should be buying?

I looked at that Paint By DS which could be kind of fun, provided it has a freehand mode and all that.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is getting positive feedback from members of another forum .. .. .. It's out in the US now so either import it or ebay it .. .. .. .. it's a series of logic puzzles to get you scratching your head set to a quirky storyline.

^^^My copy of Professor Layton arrived the other day. It is good, really different. The closest thing to it on the DS is Phoenix Wright, I think, in that it's a point and click adventure, but there's certainly more adventuring in Layton.

Re: Any good games coming out?

I'm enjoying it. Some of the puzzles are infuriatingly tough at first glance, but when you work them out you wonder why it took you so long. They definitely make you think, but in an entertaining way. I'm enjoying it, but not half as much as my girlfriend, who practically had to have the DS wrestled from her hands at the weekend after clocking up more than five hours' playing in one sitting.

You clearly haven't read this thread as that title has already been recommended and discussed on several posts above.

Viva Pinata is headed to the DS at some stage.

That and Professor Layton are the two I'm really excited about.

Re: Any good games coming out?

I finished Layton a while back (not 100% but completed the story).

Graphically the game is a success, quaint, slightly styled images mixed with well developed FMV's. A problem with this type of game is there's often too much talking when all you want to do is do something. Layton doesn't suffer from this problem and there's always something to do.

The main story is odd. You should be able to see the ending from a mile off, which is strange in a game where logic is so prevalent - the story is also slightly lacking. Whilst it's only there as a means of progressing through a load of puzzles something a bit more substantial would have rounded the whole thing off.

You can get new weekly puzzles by connecting to the net (haven't tried this yet) - but could be a good feature.

Overall, it's worth the price tag.

Playing Apollo Justice at the moment. Started playing it soon after playing PW3. Playing the two close together I was disappointed how the story has progressed within AJ, but, it is starting to redeem itself and if they make a new trilogy and fill in all the gaps (as they did with the first 3); the overall story could be very rewarding.

I am in my thirties and I recently purchased a pink ds lite (maybe not your colour Andy) and I love it!!!

I love Super Mario, Brain Training, Deal or No Deal, Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire, Nintendo Dogs lol...there are so many! My real dog is going barmy when I'm talking into the DS LITE!!! Ho HUM!!!!

My little niece and I linked up our ds's recently to play together... now that was fun

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, if you buy it...and loads of games to choose from. Let us know how you get on!

Re: What games are good for DS

A DS recommendations thread without Phoenix Wright? What is this madness?!

My suggestions:

-Mario Kart DS
-New Super Mario Bros.
-Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan (the Japanese counterpart)
-Phoenix Wright 1-4
-Phantom Hourglass
-Castlevania
-Tetris DS
-Jump Ultimate Stars

My favourite game atm is Touch Darts...brilliant control and the opponents AI when you get later on in tournaments is really good.

Re: What games are good for DS

There is a similar thread discussing upcoming games ..... but as release dates come and go, they become discussions about current games so I've merged these together (for instance, Prof Layton is now available to buy so should really be in here).

Anyway, thread titles edited too.

Two and three, apparently - The Devil's Box and The Final Time Journey are the names IGN has for them. Off the top of my head, I think the sequel was announced before the first game had even been released (certainly in the UK, anyway).
