| Re: Homebrew Apps/Games/FW etc thread (please no discussion of ROMs/Piracy)
Thanks for that YT vid Cas, that game looks quite similar to the Guitar Rock Tour game that I have (non-homebrew). It was interesting to see that even though the guy selected expert difficulty, the song still looked quite easy lol. Also, was there a specific reason why he covered the bottom screen with his hand at the beginning of the vid, or am I just reading too much into that? I've been looking into some homebrew music software/games and have been using ProteinDS (aka Scratch DS), CellsDS and Nitro Tracker. The Scratch DS is pretty self-explanatory and allows you to using a short music loop file to scratch like a DJ and rewind/fast-forward. It's not bad for a few minutes distraction. CellsDS is a little sequencer program that provides you with a grid/piano roll interface where you draw patterns on the grid for up to 6 different tracks. You can download lots of different loops and samples for it and can make some interesting tunes on it if you spend a little time on it. It's a bit like GlitchDS except without the bizarre graphical interface that Glitch uses. Personally, I'd buy the Korg-DS10 over any of these. Finally Nitro Tracker is some simple tracking software which allows you to create lots of different kinds of music providing you have the appropriate music files stored on your micro SD card. Lots of people use it to make retro 8-bit-style tunes but you can make pretty much any kind of music you want (I will probably get a load of pompous replies now from people berating me for using the term 8-bit lol). I found Nitro Tracker can be a little tedious inputting all the individual notes etc and when you've finished just winds up as being a glorified speaker for when you press play and sit there for 5 minutes listening to your tune. I personally prefer to make music live and improvise as I play, I'm sure you could probably do a lot more with Nitro Tracker if I bothered to read the guides on the site but I'm a man with little time and attention lol.
Anyway, this part of the thread is great for sharing homebrew apps/games and I'm glad people have started using it for that.
