Can the DS (& Wii) use WPA encryption???

I am begginging to worry if WEP is of much use any more on my wireless network so thought about moving to WPA - as well as the router I would have to make my desktop PC, PS3, Wii, DS and a laptop compatible - can anyone confirm if the DS (& Wii) does WEP?

Presumably, if you were so inclined, you could use WPA for all your other wireless needs, and use the Nintendo dongle for DS connectivity?

hummmmm! I thought so, I couldn't quite recall, thats a real bummer. Why is this? Laziness on Nintendos part?

Any one know how I can make my wireless network more secure but keep WEP? I have heard you can asign so only certain devices IP address can access the wireless router, but how do I find each items IP address and are they consistant?

thanks for the suggestion - but that is an unacceptable solution.

Re: Can the DS (& Wii) use WPA encryption???

There was a poll about this on Techrepublic not too long ago. Sony released a firmware update for the PSP and people were hoping Nintendo would do the same, no cigar I'm afraid.

Re: Can the DS (& Wii) use WPA encryption???

Is WEP considerably less secure than WPA, then? I switched my router's settings to WEP the other day in order to be able to use my DS online but might buy the USB adapter & switch back if so.

Re: Can the DS (& Wii) use WPA encryption???

WEP is considered the weakest option, I read an article on the bbc news website where it warned against WEP.

Re: Can the DS (& Wii) use WPA encryption???

Enable mac address filtering - it only allows devices specified by you to connect to your router.

Connect with your ds, view the client lists connected to your router and copy over the mac address into the mac address filtering option, make sure you also enable your pc mac address and anyother devices connected to your router. This way you have WEP and MAC address filtering as your security, not perfect but it's an extra line of defence.

Re: Can the DS (& Wii) use WPA encryption???

On the flip side, last week (maybe the week before) two people were up before the courts, and were punished (I forget what) for logging on to other people's wireless networks.
