Re: The Diddy Kong Racing Friend Code thread

Hey, tried the mutiplayer game where you have to swoop down in the plane & collect the eggs in the middle while protecting yours (not easy!) It was brilliant, three of us online last night/this morning! It was exactly like the original except with real folk! It's the first battle area I've unlocked. Can't wait to try the others.

Re: The Diddy Kong Racing Friend Code thread

yeah, you know which one I mean, it's the orange lava level. It's hilarious, you're caught between three minds most of the time, thieving eggs, swooping on the re-spawns or protecting yours & the lead can change right up to the final whistle which makes it even better. It's definately a good one.

Re: The Diddy Kong Racing Friend Code thread

God I almost forgot why I hated this so much on N64, then I get the DS version..... feels like you're doing about 5 miles an hour, complete lack of any sort of skill required in the races, boring, uneventful, cack weapons, If you end up at the back at the beginning then youve practically had it unless you go round getting those stupid turbos.

The final nail in the coffin for me is that stupid handbrake that turns you 90 degrees, which you never need to turn.

I suppose its a good game, if you're 5 years old

I take it by now you have realised you have to go through several hours of trudgery just to get the vehicles everyone else uses online. The difficulty of the 'races' changes from one map to the next up and down up and down etc but mostly you have to 'race' the perfect 'race' in order to get the 1st position required to proceed.

Then you have to do all the levels again except this time pressing coins on the screeen while your taken round on rails....

I dont even want to talk about the stupid boss fights where your supposed to control vehicles by persisting around on the touchscreen.

Perhaps the biggest kick in the teeth is the fact that getting your vehicles up to their potential fastest (2 upgrades) not only takes 3 or four hours of frustration, but that it barely makes ANY difference to the actual speed of the vehicle. The only noticeable difference is if you sacrifice handling for speed, which makes an already poorly controlling game nigh on impossible

End of rant.

Re: The Diddy Kong Racing Friend Code thread

Well I must admit I'm not very keen on the game, shame really as I'd been looking forward to it for months. Played a few of the races but the end of level one where it groups all the races together seems to ramp up the difficulty from very easy to insane

Will probably try to give it time to grow on me but so far unimpressed with Diddy Kong Racing sadly. Haven't tried it online yet.

Re: The Diddy Kong Racing Friend Code thread

Finding it hard to get into this myself to be honest, I enjoyed it for a day or two when I got it but nothing about it makes me want to turn it back on.

Think I'll go back to Mario Kart for whenever I feel like some handheld racing.

Re: The Diddy Kong Racing Friend Code thread

I've just completed this for the second time (Adventure 2) in about 3 days. It took about 8 hours to do.

I had this game for the 64 as well but back then I remember thinking the game was hard - but I was about 10 at the time. The problem with the DS game is it can sometimes come across as being really cheap - the controls are poor so if you get bullied at the start of the race and end up 8th there's a good chance you're going to stay there as everyone has a similar speed. Also some courses are fiendishly difficult to navigate smoothly due to poor turning - the plane is a big problem.

Another problem is the whole concept of difficulty - at first it's quite difficult, but upgrade your vehicles to Air A (there is no difference between A and B except looks) and the game will become a lot easier. I blasted through all the levels and hardly spent any time interacting with the AI as I was so far ahead of them. The game became ridiculously simple, the mirror mode makes it slightly more difficult but as you start with all your upgrades it's still easy. And I never even bothered to buy any other upgrades, they seemed so pointless upgrading to Air A already made me unbeatable.

Then there's times where the difficulty is ridiculous such as the boss touch challenges, getting gold on the balloon popping levels (which are stupid) and unlocking T.T. is just too much effort - luckily none are compulsary to completing the game (unless you're a perfectionist).

Overall though, I kind of enjoyed it - and I beat it in 3 days, go me.
