Dear all DS Animal Crossing residents - I had a very sad and distressing experience recently which I'd like to share with you, along with a proposal to stop it ever happening again...
Last Sunday, a creature called Joan turned up, selling white turnips for the reasonable price of 92 bells each. I bought loads - nearly 70k bells worth... should make a nice profit on those, thinks I.
My plans, however, were foiled by the dastardly raccoon, Tom Nook - the highest price he had all week was 68 bells, and that was on Monday. By Saturday, the price was 42 bells.

What's worse was that I forgot that the turnips went rotten if you keep them more than a week - gutted...
The obvious answer would have been to sell all the turnips on Saturday, and at least make a fraction of my outlay back - but that's not really very satisfactory.
My proposal to counter this problem (and I'm sure it's one that all AC stalk market investors come across from time to time) would be to set up a cartel of turnip trading. How? Read on, my friends...
Each day, Tom Crook has a new price for turnips - I assume (and hope) that it is generated randomly (rather than being calculated using, say, the date - in which case everybody would have the same price each day).
If you fancy joining in, keep an eye on your turnip price each day, and post a message here with the price (perhaps only if you've got a really good price? Anyone know what a high price is? 200+?)
You would then be the host for the cartel market - others would PM you to swap friend details,
along with the number of turnips they have to sell, and the price at which they bought them. It would also be sensible to arrange a time when you are both online (and when Tom's shop is open!!) to avoid frustration and waiting around.
The turnip sellers would then visit your town, pop over to Tom's shop, and sell their turnips for loads'a'money.
To encourage everyone to take part, there should be a mandatory donation from each of the turnip sellers to the market host - I reckon that 10% of the
profit sounds reasonable, and is calculated easily:
number_of_turnips_sold x (sell_price - buy_price) x (10 / 100)
This should therefore turn out to be a good little earner for everyone - and as the price is (hopefully) random, everyone should eventually get a turn at being the market host, and earn a nice little bonus!
Theoretically we could also do something similar with buying the turnips - if someone has Joan asking for a really low price, everyone piles over there to buy them...
Let me know what you all think!
(P.S. I've now sold off most of my apple stockpile, and a whole load of furniture just so I could afford some turnips today - 170@120b each... I do hope that this takes off and I don't get burned again!
