The Animal Crossing Turnip Trading Thread

Dear all DS Animal Crossing residents - I had a very sad and distressing experience recently which I'd like to share with you, along with a proposal to stop it ever happening again...

Last Sunday, a creature called Joan turned up, selling white turnips for the reasonable price of 92 bells each. I bought loads - nearly 70k bells worth... should make a nice profit on those, thinks I.
My plans, however, were foiled by the dastardly raccoon, Tom Nook - the highest price he had all week was 68 bells, and that was on Monday. By Saturday, the price was 42 bells. What's worse was that I forgot that the turnips went rotten if you keep them more than a week - gutted...

The obvious answer would have been to sell all the turnips on Saturday, and at least make a fraction of my outlay back - but that's not really very satisfactory.
My proposal to counter this problem (and I'm sure it's one that all AC stalk market investors come across from time to time) would be to set up a cartel of turnip trading. How? Read on, my friends...

Each day, Tom Crook has a new price for turnips - I assume (and hope) that it is generated randomly (rather than being calculated using, say, the date - in which case everybody would have the same price each day).

If you fancy joining in, keep an eye on your turnip price each day, and post a message here with the price (perhaps only if you've got a really good price? Anyone know what a high price is? 200+?)

You would then be the host for the cartel market - others would PM you to swap friend details, along with the number of turnips they have to sell, and the price at which they bought them. It would also be sensible to arrange a time when you are both online (and when Tom's shop is open!!) to avoid frustration and waiting around.

The turnip sellers would then visit your town, pop over to Tom's shop, and sell their turnips for loads'a'money.
To encourage everyone to take part, there should be a mandatory donation from each of the turnip sellers to the market host - I reckon that 10% of the profit sounds reasonable, and is calculated easily:
number_of_turnips_sold x (sell_price - buy_price) x (10 / 100)

This should therefore turn out to be a good little earner for everyone - and as the price is (hopefully) random, everyone should eventually get a turn at being the market host, and earn a nice little bonus!

Theoretically we could also do something similar with buying the turnips - if someone has Joan asking for a really low price, everyone piles over there to buy them...

Let me know what you all think!

(P.S. I've now sold off most of my apple stockpile, and a whole load of furniture just so I could afford some turnips today - 170@120b each... I do hope that this takes off and I don't get burned again! )

he he - thats a funny post - with a great way to make money - I would join in but I rarely get chance to pick up AC these days. When I do load it up I get sarcasitc comments from the characters about being away for so long

I just love some of the detail in the game, shame I have so little time

That's exactly the reasoning behind starting this up - to minimise the risk that your own Tom Crook is going to screw you...

The red turnips are OK, but it's such a bind *having* to be online every day for a week to water them... good profit per turnip, but a shame you can only have one at a time What does it work out to - 1k bells outlay, water every day for a week, sell for 15k bells... 2k per day, roughly - I think I could get more just by selling apples @ 100b each to Tom

OK - just a quick note to take care over the turnip prices; I checked first thing this morning (just gone 8am... sad, eh?) and was offered 130b each turnip... but now this has reduced to 70b each. Not good.

Anyone know whether the price changes each hour? Or at lunchtime?

Chunder great idea! Last week I only bought 10 white turnips after getting stung the week before (highest all week was 72 bells, I bought 100 at 99 bells each!), and guess what nook was buying for 354 bells each - typical!! So this week I've bought 100, whats the chances I lose money again?!?!?
I'll check my prices later and post them up!

Ack - not good news in my town so far...

Yesterday (Monday) the price was 130am/70pm, and today was 69am/57pm...

Doesn't look like there will be a turnip party at my place any time soon!

Anyone still with turnips left unsold, they're going for 125 here today (Saturday) - not as good as daftmole's 172, but still will get you a bit of profit.

I've just shifted all mine (a tiny profit of about 3900b; would have been better raising a red turnip! *sigh*), and will leave it online for the rest of the afternoon/evening (until Nook's closes).

If you're not on my friends list already, PM me if you want to come and sell up

OK - I've gone balls-out and sold virtually all my furniture, collected as many shells as I could find, and spent most of yesterday evening fishing, in order to get as much money together as possible... 870 turnips at 97b each... *fingers crossed*

I had to ask myself, though - how on Earth does that daft old hog manage to carry so many turnips? Very impressive!

On the off chance that anyone is watching the footy from home (or not interested in it), turnips are going for 174 here tonight. I've just sold enough of mine to make back my original outlay... can't decide whether I should hang on to the remaining 340 turnips in the hope of making an even bigger profit, or whether I should sell them all now while I can... dilemma!

I'll leave the DS online - feel free to pop by if you're around, although I won't be playing...

That'll teach me to not look properly - a 31000 bells "loss" of profit. BUM!

Has anyone had a decent turnip price recently? The highest it's been here this week is 103, and that was this morning! The rest of the time it's been hovering around the 60's... very depressing, and my house is really untidy with turnips all over the floor

On the off-chance that anyone isn't working this morning, my turnip price is up to 240b - yay!

I've left the DS at home running off the mains power, and my gate is open - feel free to drop in to sell your turnips (although I'm trusting you to not do anything horrible like stealing all my fruit )

I couldn't decide whether I should hang out for a better price, but greed got the better of me - bought 3000 turnips for 93b each, giving a total profit of 441,000 bells... yay me! Have now paid off the 598,000 bell mortgage, and am waiting for the next house upgrade...

Hi Chunder,
I tried to come across this afternoon but seems there was a problem (I got a 80430 number ?)
Don't know if your gates are still open, but it did bring your name up on the list....strange...I'll try tonight, as that is the best price I have seen
Thanks for the heads up on it

Will have changed this afternoon, unfortunately - there's a different price am and pm

I'll let you know if it's still any good, though.

Not sure why it wouldn't let you in - I don't recall (when acting as host to a visitor) having to acknowledge anything to let them enter. Weird.

Edit: It was still connected and online when I got home this evening - perhaps it doesn't like it when the case is closed, even though it's still on and the light flashes? Weird.

My turnip price has gone down to 160 this afternoon. I'll keep my eye peeled for it going back up again....

This is my last day to sell my turnips, and I can only get a low price here, so can anyone kindly open their gates for me if their price is higher than 95 bells?
I may need to make 2 tips to sell them all

The wife's playing it at the minute - I've asked her to check out the price, and will post back here.

Don't forget to check here before noon, as the price changes!
