AE 100 screen gain?

Hallo
I have just ordered a Panasonic PT AE 100.
I have asked for some screen prices on Projecta screens.
My question is which gain should the screen have?

It's a 16:9 screen, 160cm wide and 90cm high, my room don't allow any bigger
The room will be fully darkened when i wach movies.
What else do i need?
I going to buy a P-scan DVD player maybe the Philips 962 from Hong kong, or Denon DVD 3800 if it gets god tests and is hacable like the 2800.
Will i need a Component to VGA adaptor, everybody seem to say this is better?
Any tips is aprichiated.

I think you want a screen with no gain, if you get a screen with any gain it makes blacks worse with this pj.

Most people with the AE100 prefer a grey screen.

OK.
That was wat i thought, but the screen salesman said i should have some gain. But I will rather buy on other peoples experience.
Keep em coming.

Take a look at www.direkt2u.co.uk I bought my screen from here, I went for a 80" white 16:9 screen modelb.

JSW

I thought a white wall had some gain
I'm not sure how many people are using grey screens, they are quite expensive, mdf painted with Dulux ice storm 5 & 6 mixed has proved populer.

buy a da-lite cinema vision if you cant afford a greyhawk, these are grey screens with a little gain, i really wouldnt go for a white screen with gain though, as the black levels on this projector aren't the greatest.

i tried a da-lite cinema vision with my plus that has a slightly better CR than the ae100 and it made a big difference.

personally i think that the better you get your contrast ratio the more punch your picture seems to get , so punch doesnt have to be bright.
700 ansi is plenty bright enough, look at the CRTs they only kick out 250-500 and people rarely complain about them not being bright enough.

My plus had a CR of about 600:1 and i tried a 1.3 gain screen cause it was a great price, but it only stayed up for 2 days, black level is more impotant to me.

just my opinion , sure others will put me right though

Timh,

I'm using a home made screen made from a 6ft Blackout rollerblind, painted icestorm 6 and its great. Icestorm 5 would deff be better though.

My Brother uses 5 & 6 mixed 50 50 on MDF with a sanyo PLV-30, with good results.
He found 5 just a little light for blacks, and just six was a bit too dark.

How would this one be? http://www.projecta.nl/electric.htm
Cinema electrol, matt white, 1 gain
or
Cinelpro electrol , same as above, thicker and heavier

As i live in Norway there is few places to buy home cinema screens. The place that i bought all my other equipment has Projecta screens ( projecta is owned by Da lite) and if possible i would buy a screen from them.
Any opinions on the above mentioned screens?

there is your answer then.

i beleive when tested the icestorm 6 gave a gain of about 0.8.
search on avs for icestorm and you should find the post.

this is a good way to go, using ice storm, can you have a fixed screen ??

using mdf painted seems to give good results.

or is this going in a living room where things have to be hidden ??

I can't use a fixed screen without moving my TV. I was planning to have my TV behind the screen when i watched movies. As i live at home and have got to have everything in my bedroom, 3,5m*4,5m. I have no other place to put the TV, so a electric screen is the best for me.
