Homemade TFT Projector - Good Idea
Hi Guys
I saw this article a week or so back and have decided to try and build one myself.
http://www.denguru.com/2004/11/13/su..._your_tv_for_/
Ive got a Sony KDFE50a12 so this isnt for my main viewing, its just a bit of a project while the weathers crap.
Has anyone made one of these, if so what where your results? Ive herd good things, infact ive herd that my mates home made ones better than my other friends DLP projector.
Any info would be great,
cheers
Mark

makes you think doesn't it ?...if most people will put up with a box the size of their tv, then why don't the projector makers think a projector owner would put up with a tv sized box for a 2 metre screen ?
only trouble is that this isn't the best way to do it, some people have used a tft, with a lamp behind, and a lens in front, which, if the photos are to be believed is the better route to diy projectors than using overhead projectors...don't have a link to the webpage, but someone out there might

Can't do any harm to give it a go if you're bored.
You could probably pick up a reasonable secondhand video/presentation projector for less than £300 which may well be better, so keep that in mind when you're sourcing an old OHP and TFT panel for the project.
I suspect the main problem will be the contrast ratio, which IIRC for older TFT panels is in the region of 200:1. The article emphasises brightness and resolution, but for watching films contrast ratio is the key IMHO.
Let us know how you get on!

Hi Guys
After knackering one Tft screen ive given up. After buying another screen, then the OHP, then probably breaking more stuff it just doesnt seem worth it.
So the question is What Projector to Buy? I dont want to really stray over 1k for the Screen and the Projector.
My friends Acer DLP Projector drives me mad with the rainbows so im not too keen on DLP, But after getting my KDFE50A12u im not sure on how good LCD projection is.
It will also need to be HD so i can hook up the Xbox 360 .
I really am a massive noob at projectors so any help would be great,
Hello Mr Barclaycard card..........Again!!!

Think Its a toss up between the Hitatchi 100 or 200.
Is the 200 worth the extra bucks?
Ive only every seen an acer dlp projector, will it be much better than one of them.

Yeah I would say so. YOu say your budget is 1k with screen, so you should get the 100, and leave £200 for the screen, were you can get a proper one.
Or get the 200, and maybe build a cheap screen, from MDF.

Think im going to stretch to the 200 now,
Im going to need a screen that will rollup, which are the ones to get for around 200?
Its not going to be ideal at my present flat but im too impatient.
cheers for all your help.

Have you checked on the calculator to see if your PJ can do that size at that distance?
