Yeah manufacturers have been playing around with holographic screens (and weird looking horn speakers) for a while now. We've put in a few into modern office reception areas and exhibitions etc where if done right it just looks like a floating a screen beaming coporate gubbins, advertising, video clips. Didn't cost anywhere near as much as £15k, but there again I wouldn't have one for TV use in a million years!

not really holographic are they, theyre simply rear projection devices without the big bulky cabinet.

holography is by definition a 3 dimensional media.

On the other side of the coin, you can get 3d stereo images out of 2 front projectors hooked up to a PC that runs an NVidia card (it has 2 outputs that feed left and right eye projectors).

all you need is a non depolarising screen - anything metallic will do (you will get a small amount of hotspotting though), 2 projectors that dont outputs polarised light (PTAE500 is fine), some linear polariser lenses (jessops for a few quid), a games PC with an nvidia card, et voila, all your 3d games now really are 3d.

and its an amazing effect.
