Sony VW12HT still a good buy
Hi
I have seen the Sony VW12HT for sale for 3000 pounds
I was wondering how this compares to the other Sony models like the HS20 or the Panasonic AE300?
If any one has thoughts on this

I havent seen one or the other models you mention, but if it were my money, just going on age/specs I wouldnt even consider the 12ht if the hs20 was an option..... but I could be wrong. You really would need to see them to be sure

Agree with buns. VW12 is rather old (and expensive) now. Get a HS20 or one of the other new ones like the Z2.

The VW12 is and always was one of the best LCD projectors on the market. Given that it is now available at a huge discount, it is almost certainly a good buy, and will produce an image (from a decent source) that beats the alternatives (IMO).
Put it this way - if my existing PJ died this week, a WV12 would be very high on the list of possible replacements.

Now there is a comment from someone who is much better informed than I, and whose opinions I trust. And that's not just because he is agreeing with me.

From PJ Central news item a while back...

Of particular note is the VPL-HS20, a WXGA class LCD projector (1386x788) with a substantial boost in contrast over not only the earlier HS10, but the VPL-VW12HT as well. The VPL-HS20 at the moment carries the highest contrast rating yet from an LCD product—a truly remarkable 1300:1. And evidence of it was certainly there on the screen. In addition, fan noise is reduced from the earlier HS10 and connectivity is enhanced. The price on this unit is just $3,499. So why bother with the much more expensive VPL-VW12HT you may wonder? Sony agrees; the 12HT is being discontinued.

Yes very wise words, rather old MMMMM. Properly calibrated it WILL kick the but of most old and new. I have seen one calibrated using the Smart 3 (not Smart2) the image was stunning, this was on Draper Luma (the ones most people slag off) My luma has been fine.
And I also no people who have paid around 5 times the price for a screen and it had developed faults on more than one occasion
