Homescreen floor standing screens: anyone tried it?

I found a make of floor standing screens called homescreen. They seem really good. Have a look at this! It's a pull up tensionned screen. There shouldn't be too many wrinkle problem with that?

http://www.markgoldie.co.uk/oldsite/hc/hc6.html

Has anyone else tried this pull up screen? what do you think?
I will be pulling the screen up and down almost every day so I'm worried the mecanism might wear off after a while.

Hey there frederic,
I have just bought a pull up screen from this company off ebay called scribed direct, i got it for 170 quid or something and it is a 5 ft wide, 1.1 gain and gives a very good picture.
I would suggest getting these if you can't accomodate a fixed wall screen, my reason because i have sloping walls, grr. They are also a lot more portable than the wall mounted ones.
I haven't got any rinkles in my screen atm and everything works fine, although getting a wall mounted one would be better IMO, thats if you can accomodate it without too much hassle.
Regards
Fred

Have you got Scribed Direct contact details? I couldn't find them on ebay.

Thanks

thats alright,
website: www.scribesdirect.co.uk
They have various sizes of floorstanding pull up ones and you can also go for tripod ones, but they are more of a hassle.
Anyway they are a honest company with great comms and delivery can be next day.
cheers

I spoke to Scrided Direct. They don't do a 16:9 ratio, which is what I am looking for. Pity cause it was a very good deal £166 inc vat and carriage they quoted for a 1600mm wide by 1200mm!

frederic, what do you do with your centre speaker?

Does it sit behind the black part of the screen?

Do your remotes work through the black part of the screen?

Appreciate any anwers you have as I like the look of the screen.

Cheers

Coop

I am not sure yet. I first wanted a pull down screen but after reading so many posts about wrinkles problems. I thought a floor standing one would be better. Plus it's even easier to setup. But you just made a good point about the center speaker. Any suggestions anyone

i use a pull up screen, new today and yes it is so much easier to set up and gives more options as it can easily be moved and tucked away when not needed. My centre speaker rests on a home cinema stand, on the top of it, the height of which reaches about 5 cm from the start of the white part of the screen, so the centre speaker is clearly heard and is very realisitic.
cooper i am not sure of the sound transparentcy of the black part of the screen, but to my knowledge it is not a good idea to put the centre speaker behind the screen as you will not be hearing the best quality of sound from it, basically you will be getting cr*p sound as the black part will act as a barrier. The only way to place your speakers behind the screen is to invest in acoustically transparent screens, which are both very expensive and limit the picture performance as well as the sound performancs.
conclusionut the centre speaker on a stand lying just below the visible screen

Fredric,

Does it matter if the screen is not 16:9? I thought this was important, and then realised that most movies I watch are 2.35:1 and therefore don't fill the full screen anyway!

Have a look at DRHScreens:

http://www.drhscreens.co.uk/product.html

They do a 'Lite' portable screen very cheaply. These work pretty well and are available in a 16:9 ratio at the same cost (although they aren't on the site). Just ask them over the phone or email.

I found them very helpful.

I'm currently using an 'Easy' from them. Much more expensive but a nice piece of kit. They are a bit cheaper than the other expensive pull up you've been looking at.

I needed the ease of a pull up, it was much more wife friendly! And can be used in the study too.

Cheers
Marc

The projector I am getting is 16:9 only, so wouldn't is be a problem if I got 4:3?

Anyway dru screens look like exactly what I am looking for. I might an "easy" like you. I guess there is enough tension with this system to avoid wrinkles.

Whilst 16:9 is preferable I don't really think 4:3 will be that much of a problem you'd just have an unused white bit.

Imagine if you have a 2.35:1 movie, that is not using the whole 16:9 screen either inmuch the same way you wouldn't be using the full 4:3 screen if you were projecting 16:9 on to it.

Anyway if you go to DRH you can get 16:9 so no problems.

I'd say the tension is pretty good. The best I've seen on a pull up. And I'm happy with the picture it produces. Pull down screens are better in many respects as they have gravity on their side as long as they have a heavy bar at the bottom.

Cheers

Yes, but unless they are electric they tend to wrinkle...
