Best driver on a budget for DIY subwoofer? (12" wanted)

I decided I just cannot afford a good ready made subwoofer so I started the ball rolling for a DIY one instead. Yesterday I managed to find the power amp from a Linn Sizmik sub. As lots of you probably know, this would retail (complete) at about £1000-£1500 and is 500w RMS/1000w Peak. I got it for £97.50 with special delivery so bearing that in mind I hope I haven't bought a stinker!

Amp auction here....

So the next task is (once I get the amp and find out the impedance) choosing a 12" driver which doesn't break the bank. I need as much help as possible with this bit so please tell me anything you feel could be useful.
