Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

Anyone able to pass comment on above companies subs? Appear to have a good selection of kits - though their Bash amps are 120V only - can these be rune via step down tranny? Any comment appreciated.

I found this on ebay. Not sure if it will work or not but it does say it will convert 120 into 240v.

STEP-DOWN VOLTAGE CONVERTER 240V - 120V 75W USA TO UK on eBay (end time 28-Nov-09 09:17:58 GMT)

That should be good for a couple of low energy light bulbs.

300 watt amp, not sure a 75 watt converter will do the job

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

Thanks for the pointers guys. I had wondered if step downs were available for that sort of powered amp. CSS say they can supply without amp and drop price by $99 - but I think unlikely I can source a decent plate amp for that sort of money here.
Biggest hurdle is carriage charge - $160
Anyone heard one of their kits to comment??

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

Hows this for a comparable amp at a decent price?

BSBP300

or

BSBPV300

After import charges etc, the cost differential isnt all that great, plus if a warranty issue arose, they will be much easier to deal with.

If you want a bash amp, ready for 240v supplies, try here:

Had looked at the BK site for amps - I know they are highly regarded here.
Also considering using a Peerless driver and PR and building from scratch.
Decisions decisions
Thanks for the input anyway.

That would basically be an XLS300pr then. I'm not sure the saving (if any) would be worth it myself. The 300 really is a bargain.

Looking at the price of the XLS300, I'd be 'saving' about £30 for the price of parts only. Of course that doesn't account for the hours of fun trying to build a cabinet to anything like BK's finish.

Maybe it's time for a rethink - or just buy a XLS300

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

with the price of the bk subs it's pretty much made DIY expensive until you are looking at the £1000 mark.

i was hoping i could nab some decent parts for a DIY sub for about £450 but have now decided that a monolith is still better value.

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

Trying to build your own BK sub using their components to save money just doesn't work, the savings are negligible and you could easily spend more, as you have realised. If you are doing it for the "journey" than that's a different matter

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

i was looking at fi audio Q 15" with the bk 500watt amp behind it, as a performance boosted xls200 of sorts.

but in the end it would have cost about £700 which i don't really have. i may have a rethink and just go for it but i'm gunna wait till after xmas before i make up my mind.

If you want more power for less money, then move away from plate amps. Ones like the ones we're using will offer much more power for much less money. I'll have around 2500 watts at my disposal and that cost me £180

yeah, that does make sense, however im trying to reduce box's and wold need a high level to low level converter, bfd, power amp and sub.

what amp are you planning on using? do they make one offering about 1KW bridged? and if so how cheap is it?

i would like to go that route but the cost adds up fast as i need all the processing equipment.

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

I'm using one of these amps:

BEHRINGER: EP4000

All you need to do is feed it a signal from the sub out of your processor, and wire your sub to it as a normal speaker. I picked it up for £180.

This kind of amp would leave you with another box though, if you decided not to integrate it into the sub itself.

If you wanted, you can by mono amp modules as well that could be used to power a sub if you wanted. There is a lot of choice out there really, so worth looking about before you give up.

Re: Creative Sounds Solutions sub kits

i would love to, but im using a naim audio nait 5i. only output is high-level stereo. so would have to reduce it down to a low-level signal, then chop off the 80Hz+ boost 6db at the -6db mark then i could finally amp it. ive just noticed that the Fi Q18 would only want 200W rms, does that mean that without the power upgrade i could get away with the 300 watt plate amp?

The 300 watt amp plate would be fine, although the driver could handle more if you wished.

You dont need to convert the signal to a low level one, but you would need some kind of filter to get the sub to operate only the range you want. A bfd would do the job, or you could add a crossover into the sub itself, but that will start to make things complicated.

A plate amp is probably your best bet in your circumstances though, and is certainly the easiest solution.
