Quieter fans for Behringer amps

Hi there,

Can someone point me in the direction of getting a quieter fan for the behringer amps. I would prefer one that I don't have to solder and that I can just unplug the old one and plug in the new one because of the warranty.

Adam, I just read your post on the hometheatershack forum. Did you have to cut the wire and re fit the plug back on.

cheers

Re: Quieter fans for Behringer amps

You won't find any suitable fans with the right connector I am afraid. If you do get lucky, please share as I don't know anyone who has.

Please note the fan I used is a lot quieter with air noise but unless it is installed with rubber washers or ideally rubber 'stretchy bolts' it does buzz a bit. It will still be a lot quester but not as silent as you might want.

Re: Quieter fans for Behringer amps

Adam,

The fan is really noisy and I find myself turning the TV up to drown it out so anything quieter will be good. Just worries me about the warranty. I will have a look.

cheers

Re: Quieter fans for Behringer amps

Likewise, mine is much quieter although a touch buzzy as I have yet to be bothered to find the requisite rubber washers.

Isn't there a good thread on this very subject already, or has the search button fallen off?

Re: Quieter fans for Behringer amps

That was before I got the amp though so everything else was on the go.

Sometimes it is good to read and ask questions, saves things going wrong.

Re: Quieter fans for Behringer amps

I wander, how about fitting a variable resistor so you can simply turn the fan up and down at will?

This has been much discussed elsewhere.

The consensus is that DC motors don't like to start (reliably) on inadequate power.

The same goes for such ideas like doubling up 12V motors in series.

Find a low noise, 24V fan and be safe seems to be the best advice.

As does letting it blow forwards. Rather than sucking dirt into the case through every available orifice.

If one can find a suitable plug to fit the printed circuit board then the fan can be swapped without soldering or cutting the original fan wires. The original plug is a nested arrangement of two parts. I finally found one on a discarded computer fan on a car boot stall where the vendor had all sorts of computer "junk". You may have a similar outlet nearer home. I was told these plugs for computer fans were once common but now obsolete.

Re: Quieter fans for Behringer amps

Does anyone have a pic of the plug in question. We use various plugs and connectors at work on our PCB's / fans and i may have some knocking about.

If one is not up to soldering / splice (you know who you are ) then a simple connector block or red devil (Butt splice) would do the trick if the old plug is removed with a short bit of wire.

Just make sure that you match the current rating of the fans. I swapped out a 24v fan on my Cinepro and nearly killed the amp. The original was rated at 0.04amps and the new one at 0.45amps. I only noticed when i fired it up and it started to smoke Just ensure you make a not of the power rating and not just the voltage

Doubling up fans in line with each other never ever works anyway. Even in big industrial venting system you never arrange fans like that. Only one fans is doing anything, as the second fans has no load (due to the first fans doing all the work). Mechanically speaking, thats a bad idea, twin fans should always be arranged side by side which I doubt would be possible on the Behringer without some serious modding.
