Frequency Response Using A Car Sub Cab?

I've seen a couple of 10 inch mordaunt short subwoofer drivers from 308s and 309is, and I was wondering what the sound would be like if I were to shove it in a sealed car sub enclosure?
I would power it with my Sansui power amp and I have a crossover etc, and I was just wondering if I could get myself a decent sub this way, as it would work out a lot cheaper than buying a new sub.
I have an old Yamaha YST-SW70 atm, which I understand to be very old, and it can play up sometimes...

Would loading an MS sub driver into a car sub enclosure work well, or would it being asking for trouble?

Thanks

It would help if you had the TS parameters of these drivers.
These could then be fed into Win ISD Pro to determine ideal box size.

It will work but I doubt it will be very good due to the enclousore not being correctly matched to the driver. I bet finding the T&S specs on the MS subwoofer will be hard.

Also bear in mind a lot of prefabricated car audio enclosures are rubbish, they are really weak and not that well made.

In which case one should try and match the volume of the original subwoofer box but find or make an alternative but cheap enclosure. I am frequently inspired by plant pots and containers at garden centres and builder's merchants as potential subwoofer or speaker enclosures. A suitable baffle could be made for these unlikely objects using a cheap jig saw or even hand tools then glued in with silicone.

Believe it or not I spend a lot of time looking at what could be a good subwoofer or even midwoofer enclosures, there have been a few breadbins that would have been good with a bit of glue and a jigsaw......

Great minds think alike!

There are lots of large, ceramic pots which would make smart and very different enclosures for all tastes. It is easy enough to roughly calculate the volume of most of them. Prices for glazed examples are quite affordable compared with MDF and the many man hours it takes to make something look really attractive. The ceramic pot is probably much stiffer and far more variable between opposing boundaries than any box. So panel resonance and colouration should be much reduced.

Yep, I'd throw some wadding/stuffing in and go from there.

This could start a trend. Drag SWMBO along to the garden centre or DIY store on Saturday morning to select her own patio plant container for a living room subwoofer.

Can you imagine the threads on the DIY sub forum?

Will blue one sound any different from rose pink or slate grey?

Will a huge, antique urn sound... a bit oldy fash?
