Re: bluray films not many with dolby true hd.

Yes but the preference of audio formats has now become Studio centric.

Sony - DTHD. Was featuring LPCM earlier.
FOX - DTS-HD MA
Lionsgate - DTS-HD MA or LPCM (increasingly featuring 7.1)
New Line - DTS-HD MA 7.1
Universal - DD+ with few DTHD on some select titles. I think they will start featuring DTHD once they enter the BLU ship.
Paramount - Mostly DD but they too are expected to follow the footsteps of Universal or Sony.
Warner - DTHD or DD @640 Kbps

If you don't have a receiver capable of decoding HD audio then choose the DD or DTS track which should sound pretty darn good. Some recent HD AVRs decode legacy audio formats better than the next gen audio formats which has puzzled many to a great extent.

Re: bluray films not many with dolby true hd.

PCM - Pulse Code Modulation - Encoding Analog Signal into Digital form using 8-bit samples (quantization). It's Uncompressed, closest to the studio master and occupies more space. In Blu-rays PCM tracks are encoded at either 16-bit (4.6 Mbps CBR) or at 24-bit (6.1 / 6.9 Mbps CBR). The optical / coaxial outputs are NOT capable of transmitting high bit rate audio (> 1.5 Mbps).

PCM in Blu-ray is being used as a stop gap measure as the grace period profile doesn't mandate advanced audio formats.
In another 1-2 years Studios may drop LPCM in favor of Lossless/Compressed audio formats that occupy optimal space and produce similar audio quality like that of PCM.

Btw PCM is not a new concept. It's been there since ages.

Re: bluray films not many with dolby true hd.

I would prefer that Uncompressed PCM tracks stick around abit longer as its what my amp likes best.

Re: bluray films not many with dolby true hd.

Onkyo SR-605 - DTS,DD decoded better than LPCM.
Onkyo SR-805 (THX Certified) - LPCM decoded better than DTS,DD

You can perform the comparisons with the below discs by switching between LPCM and DD/DTS

1) Casino Royale
2) Black Hawk Down
