VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

Can anyone with a Bluray UK/European version of 'Training Day' confirm that the movie is encoded using VC1. I saw a thread on another site stating that the European release has a better transfer than the US version which is encoded in the older MPEG2 codec and would like to confirm that this is true.

Reason why I ask is because the HD-DVD version of this movie was superb and when I saw the US MPEG2 Bluray version, I was unimpressed.

Many thanks.

Confirmed that European release of Training Day is encoded in VC-1 and superior to the US MPEG-2 version. Its a much better transfer and picture is superb.

According to Rewind, German version is MPEG-2 as well: http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=9605

But, DVDRama say that the French version is VC-1: http://www.dvdrama.com/rw_fiche-7549-.php (my French ain't great, so someone will need to double check the review!).

EDIT: These guys (http://www.digital-movie.de/dvd-revi...asp?ArtNr=6024) say that the German is VC-1. Hard to tell which is right. All have the same language options etc. so French and German release are probably the same.

Does the UK version have Eng/Fre/Ger audio? If so they are probably all the same disk.

Re: VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

I bought mine today from Gamestation and its VC-1. Audio has English, French and German 5.1DD. Also has the UK and Irish age certificate on the packaging.

What's the best codec for Blu-ray? Is VC1 better than MPEG-4?

Re: VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

Does anyone have the UK versions of the following disks and can test which codec they use,

Good Night and Good Luck
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Rumour Has It
Fugitive
Space Cowboys

All of the US disks are encoded with mpeg2 like Training Day in the US was - just wondering if Warner encoded these with VC-1 for the UK release.

Re: VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

Hmm. Interesting. I might have to pick this up, as there are some comparison pics at AVS between the MPEG2 Blu version and the VC1 HD DVD, and the latter is clearly better with a lot less macroblocking.

If the Euro Blu uses a similar (perhaps the very same) VC1 encode as the HD DVD, then it's definitely worth considering, although if you're purple like me then the cheapo HD DVD is the way to go at the moment.

Re: VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

Is the U.K Blu-ray version VC-1 encoded ? I ordered the Blu-ray version under the assumption that it's VC-1 encoded.

Re: VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

Judging from the release dates it looks like the U.K version is VC-1 encoded.

Re: VC1 Bluray version of Training Day?

Apologies for the delay. Yes the UK version of Training Day is VC-1 and is better quality than the U.S. MPEG2 version. I had this disk on HD-DVD and it was one of my favourite transfers and when I saw the MPEG2 version I was really dissapointed. However I am really happy with the Bluray VC-1 UK version.
