Re: 7.1 and 6.1 BD/HDDVD

It depends on what audio decoding you are using, on what players. The vast majority are fixed to 5.1 even when they have 7.1 outputs.

for bluray, good luck chuck, war, and 310 to yuma have 7.1 pcm audio, so you should get that no problem as long as your amp accepts 7.1 pcm which most should do, other discs such as rush hour 3 and shoot em up have dts ma 7.1 audio, however to get these you need a player that outputs the hd audio in bitstream format and an amp with onboard dtsma decoding.

The same applies with hddvd, you will need a player which bitsreams the hd audio and an amp with onboard decoding.

Re: 7.1 and 6.1 BD/HDDVD

I must admit, when I installed my back surrounds I have noticed a marked improvement in the surround sound panning. As mentioned the above dedicated extra surround movies are great but also I get fantastic sound from 5.1PCM tracks aswell in PCM DD PLIIx.
