Question HD DVD prices post June'2008

What do you think will be an ideal price to sell/trade HD DVD upon depletion of stocks post June'2008 ?

My Vote : 6 ~ 10 (EXCLUDING PAYPAL FEE)

It will have to reflect what the stores are charging (whilst they still have stocks) and this is increasingly moving toward the £6 -£10 bracket especially for imported discs.

After stocks run out at the shops, the price will then depend on the usual laws of supply & demand and in that scenario, it may be reasonable to charge a little more for a prestige title (£11 - £15).

Re: HD DVD prices post June'2008

I think we're in for a bit of a rollercoaster.

Firstly we'll see shops maintaining prices on most items as long as they're still selling, then reducing prices slightly as demand decreases. I'm not sure that this will happen overnight. As stocks diminish, and they just have a few HD DVDs left wasting storage space, there'll be some major reductions - all be it on titles that are not too popular.

When the cupboard is bare in Mrs.Amazon's kitchen, prices will follow supply and demand at e-bay and the classifieds. Titles which were sold off cheaply, and which are not popular, will go at rock bottom prices. Popular titles released late in the day, and withdrawn soon after, may be quite expensive.

In a few years, when 'the missus' has nagged many a HD DVD owner to sell that extra player under the TV ("You can get them all on Blu-ray now for a tenner!"), e-bay will be awash with all but the most rare and sought after titles, and most discs will be sold very cheaply.

Well, that's my guess.

I think UK retailers will keep the prices above the rest of the World for as long as possible.

Around the World we are seeing cheap offers from Oz, USA and even Germany. English prices haven't shifted at all...

Its nice to see that consumers are voting with their pockets and taking their business overseas where the prices are realistic if not a outright bargain!

Good news in the long run.

Shops like HMV have a track record of putting new releases out for top dollar, then selling them off at ridiculously low prices when they think they've squeezed the last once out of the full price.

We might see a sudden drop to £5 each in a few months if we're lucky.

True...they still have the 3 for 2 offer on on HD DVD on about 70 odd titles

Their website has been screwing me on my credit card transactions by charging individually, Nationwide has a ridiculously low limit on internet transactions a day and this shot it to pieces.

Zavvi or Virgin as it was occasionally have some deals but not much at the moment. I suspect they will be similar to HMV.

If you ordered them together, and they claimed individually, which cost you money, I'd get in touch and complain.

Re: HD DVD prices post June'2008

Its more the fact that Nationwide limits the amount of internet transaction you can put through a day.

Really screwed up my ordering from Oz and USA as HMV chucking them through is this way used up all the transaction blocking other transactions going through normally not a problem but a major PITA that caused lots of phone calls to the cc company.

In a way its good as they don't charge until the order is shipped, but in combination with a Nationwide cc its not a good thing!

Re: HD DVD prices post June'2008

6-10 although I'm starting to think lower even.

I bought 10 HD DVDs from the firesale over at EzyDVD last night. After conversion from AUD to GBP it came to £38.29 - 3.83 each avg, plus postage. Granted they're not necessarily new titles but some good catalogue stuff e.g. Dog Day Afternoon, Bullitt etc.

Under Siege for 5 Aussie bucks - Erika Eleniacs tits in glorious HD.

There was a 24hr thing going on (beat the bomb or something-or-other) with titles as low as $4.47 - including Under Siege.
