Over 100 new Sony Blu-Ray titles in 2008 ..
Nice one Sony;
"Sony is scheduled to release more than 100 Blu-ray titles this year, a 54 percent increase over last year.
That's according to an article by Video Business.
The 100-plus releases will include such titles as The Other Boleyn Girl starring Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson and Hancock, which stars Will Smith. To date, Sony has only released 93 Blu-ray films."

Well that's what HD needs, a major commitment and to follow it up, very surprised SONY only had 93 titles out, good job they had supporting studios

I was surprised too actually.
A 54 percent increase over 2007 is great to see though. Let's hope the other studios follow suit.

Re: Over 100 new Sony Blu-Ray titles in 2008 ..
Correct me if I am wrong but is not the price of Blu-Ray movies starting to rise?
Now we will only have the choice of a movie in SD or Blu-Ray will the studios start to rake in even more of our cash?
And with a working region locking system will our UK releases cost even more compared to the American release of the same movie?

Re: Over 100 new Sony Blu-Ray titles in 2008 ..
I've been very impressed with Sony releases. Most of their back catalogue titles are region free, with a good array of extras and PCM soundtracks. They are also quite reasonably priced, plus the latest ones actually tell you what film you have in your PS3, always helpful for me who can never remember what film was last left in!
Now if only Fox were to follow Sony's fine example with their releases

A clip from one of the Bad Boys movies (I'm not sure which one) was included in the standard trailer included on early Sony Blu-Ray releases.
It was Will Smith jumping in slow motion firing a bullet from his gun. PQ looked very good and it's strange they haven't been released as yet.

it was bad boys 2. and i've been waiting for that one too. can't see why they put it on the trailer as coming soon if it wasn't almost ready to go.

haven't noticed it, but a lot of people thought the demise of hddvd would allow bluray manufacturers to increase prices due to lack of compeition.

If they raise the prices then they will sound the death knell for the HD format. The companies aren't stupid. They know this so I expect to see a downward trend in prices soon because they need to convert people from DVD.

I agree.
I understand the argument of some that because of a lack of format "competition" there is the opportunity to raise prices.
That is not taking into consideration the competition with DVD as you mention but also the competition between the studios / distributors for people to buy their movies over those of others.
Also, in general, it is only the internet buying public that are getting consistently discounted pricing and even then the average price is around the £16 / £17 mark.
High street prices are generally higher than this with companies like HMV in particular charging a fortune.
We are at the start of an adoption curve with HD disc and I suspect prices will start to come down over the course of this year as we approach Christmas.
