Recommend a Blu-Ray movie others may have missed ....
As the title says, I thought it might be useful to have a thread where people could recommend a Blu-Ray movie from their collection that others may have missed.
This might be because it wasn't a big box office hit or it's in a particular genre that people perceive they will not like etc.
Two movies that I'd recommend are;
Hellboy - an action movie adaptation of a graphic comic book hero. Directed by Guillermo del Toro of Pan's Labyrinth fame and the man chosen to direct the forthcoming Hobbit movies.
It's a good looking, fast paced action film with some appropriate one liners.
Knowing nothing of the comic books, I was initially put off by the title and ignored this movie for some time after its release. I'm glad it is in my collection now though.
Kung Fu Hustle - A comic martial arts caper (although quite graphic). I first saw this movie playing when salivating over LCD TV's a couple of years ago through a Tottenham Court Road shop window.
I actually asked the shop owner the name of the movie as it looked superb.
It is visually stunning, I think, especially in the colour palette of the city scenes and kept me thoroughly entertained.
I should point out neither of these movies are meant to be taken too seriously.
Both discs are available at under £11 which is an added bonus.

EDIT: I should say .... thank you in advance to all that make / discuss recommendations on the thread.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - An utter masterpiece and my favorite film of last year.
The Descent - A great home grown horror with an outstanding transfer.
Sunshine - In typical Danny Boyle style the film's synopsis may not sound like anything special, but this film really is special.
Pan's Labyrinth - buy it, buy it, buy it NOW!

These are exactly the sort of recommendations I am talking about in that they come from genres Western, Horror, Sci-Fi and "Fantasy" that people may initally think, "Oh no I don't fancy that".

The Fountain - A simple love story between two people that's an absolute brilliant film. Sadly it didn't get the recognition it deserved.

Superbad - Some may have just written this off as simply "another teen movie" but definitely worth seeing in my opinion. It isn't just run of the mill and for me it is very funny and holds up well to repeated viewings.

Days Of Glory,
A fantastic film about Algerians leaving their homeland to fight with the free French during WW2. Picture is astonishingly good too. A must have for fans of war films (pisses all over stuff like Saving Private Ryan.) A very very important film which shows the injustices heaped upon ethnic troops whilst fighting in western wars.

Just read a little more about this online including this comment;
"There aren't many films that can bring into effect a change in the law, but Days of Glory (released under the title of Indigènes, in its native France) did just that ...... President Chirac's wife was so moved by the film that her husband changed French law to ensure that soldiers from former colonies who'd fought to defend France received the same pension rights as their native French counterparts."

(I didn't read the whole article linked as I like to avoid spoliers)
Anyway, suffice to say, I think I'll be adding this one to my purchase list.
80% of the others recommended thus far are already on the list so it's growing.
Cheers.

Re: Recommend a Blu-Ray movie others may have missed ....
The Lookout - directed by Scott Frank and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this is a great little thriller, with shades of Memento and Fargo. Picked mine up from Movietyme:

(actually don't know if this is region free, I'll check and edit this later)

Which region did you get? If it's the US version (A), is it the bloodless version that was released on US dvd? I love the film by the way.

Movietyme have this listed as region A but I noticed it's distributed by Miramax and "No Country For Old Men" was recently confirmed as region free so perhaps?
I'd never heard of this film, but it has very good reviews on metacritic.

Both favourites of mine but haven't "double dipped" ..... yet. Will be recording We Were Soldiers on Saturday C4HD as this will be the first time I will have seen it in HD.

My copy says all regions A,B,C on the back.
Just had a brief scan through the first 15 mins of the movie and there are definitely some scenes with blood. I think due to the comic overtones of the film though they did not want it to be overly realistic in that aspect.

cheers, picked up Hellboy and thought it was definitely the best of the comic genre. For less than £10 at tower.com it was a real bargain!
Now I just need to pick up days of glory
