Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

I persoanlly don't see this as a bad move. Warner are a great company and i'm sure they will help push the Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-Ray sooner

Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

Personally i think this is good news, if only for the fact that warners is (so far) region free. Newline was very pro region coding.

Hopefully warners (paramount and uni) will continue their no coding stance. Meaning we now have 1 less studio region coding BDs.

Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

From a human point of view any scenario that results in mass lay offs is a bad thing.

With that in perspective, from the point of view of this forum "HD Movies" it's a good thing for us in the UK as far as Warner's currrent region coding policy.

I wonder how much of this has to do with the ongoing court case against New Line to pay the royalties being claimed by the Tolkien Trust?

New Line being taken to court over Film trilogy profits

I'd imagine it could amount to a fair few quid which Warner is no doubt more able to cover.

Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

Might also mean that we don't get the NewLine/EIV releases. They will probably just be Warner now

Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

[CONSPIRACY THEORY]Of course, Warner now have the perfect excuse to implement regional coding: "It was part of the agreement when we absorbed New Line that any of their cinema releases had to be Regionally Conded on Blu-ray Disc, or have their release staggered to match worldwide release schedules. Whilst we would like our releases to remain region-free, it is impractical to operate a two-tier policy, so from now on all new Warner Brothers releases will be regionally coded. This is great news for the consumer, as they will not now have to wait for the rights to become available worldwide to purchase the title in high definition".[/CONSPIRACY THEORY]

Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

I have always found Warner to be a good company, even if they don't always push the boundaries to much on their discs. I am more inclided to see this as good for the customer rather than not.

I agree. Warner are a good company. Just look at the quality of some of their recent releases like Blade Runner.

As for the region coding thing, lets not spend time worrying about that until it happens. We might be getting ourselves all revved up for nothing.

Re: Warner Brothers to absorb New Line

Yes, let's imagine for a moment if it had been different and it was Fox that had bought New Line. Now that would have been a disaster.
