Universal Studios Response To Paramount Announcement
I thought this may be of interest.
"To me it is a validation of a strategic stance we have taken, and I am so pleased that Paramount and DreamWorks have done as thorough an evaluation as they have done and come to the same exactly conclusion that we did long ago, which is that with HD DVD we have a format that offers the best and most affordable consumer experience," said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Universal was the only studio to exclusively support HD DVD. "

Re: Universal Studios Response To Paramount Announcement
I should imagine Universal are very happy with Paramount's announcement - they have stuck to their guns despite the Sony PR machine - and have ultimately come out on top.

How do you mean come out on top?
Do we really need a new thread every time Paramount or Universal fart?

Put aside the format war for a second...for the last few months Sony PR has been quite effective in creating the image of Universal just being slow to adopt BluRay and giving false hope that they would 'yield' soon. How many articles have we had saying it's just Universal backing HD DVD (in actual fact the format always had three major exclusive backers)?
Now Paramount and Dreamworks have stood up and effectively cited the same reasons...stability, DVD Forum, cheaper players/production cocts etc. A resounding affirmation for Universal's decision and demonstration of foresight for it's Directors. And in addition Universal have hurt Sony, a major competitor, by this announcement. I should imagine they are very happy with the way this has all worked out.
If that wasn't enough Universal, by staying loyal to HD DVD, is now in a position of strength within that format - they are chairman of the board. HD DVD has been stengthened beyond imagination by this announcement - do you honestly think their are many CE producers now who aren't thinking of adding HD DVD support to their products? Universal played to win - and have done so on every count as far as I can see.

Paramount are backing HD-DVD because of the $150m - thats all there is to it.
Fair enough if Paramount had just said they were going exclusive for the reasons you give then it would be a coup - but its the $150m thats guiding the decision.

I posted this information as a general FYI. In the general scheme of things some people might find this interesting given the rumours that Universal were about to go neutral.
As someone who is largely format neutral but a general HD film lover, I did NOT post this to start another format war discussion.
Your language and attitude has started to really get on my nerves.
I could say why do we need a trolling answer every time you hit the 'submit post' icon, but then again I am better mannered than that.
There is no food for you here - Please give it a rest

Well that's the popular myth - another popular myth was Universal would go neutral and HD DVD would cease to exist so lets not put too much stock in it!
Microsoft have denied they paid any sum to Paramount. I don't know if they did or not! I don't know what deals Sony/BDA (etc) struck with BD studios! What I do know is Paramount have cited the reasons I quoted for the change. Have a read of this thread for discussion as to the real motives of Paramount[/url].

If the $150m deal wasnt true then Paramount would have denied it as quickly as MS did as it makes them look bad.
Do you agree then that IF its true it some what takes the shine of this deal?
